:) The browser icon page tells you how to use ResEdit to hack your copy of Netscape on Mac to have a basketball throbber. Brilliant!

Oh, you win the internets. I loved this series when I was a kid and never got to see quite enough of it. I went looking for it a couple of years ago without success. This is great!

I think "Legos" is a US-specific usage. In NZ, Australia and UK I've only ever heard people say "built it out of Lego".

Evernote's OCR ended up being a non-feature as far as I was concerned because you can only search within the OCR'd text, you can't extract it and do anything else.

Yep I've moved largely from Evernote to Catch because having stuff work properly on my Android phone ended up being the deal breaker, Evernote's first Android client couldn't be used in offline mode at all. If Catch had a decent desktop int

Agreed that the other photo is dodgy, but there's not actually that much difference between it and yours. North Korea at night is largely dark, either way.

I'd really love to see a filtered HN with nothing from or about TechCrunch. Maybe it's just because I'm thousands of miles away and have hardly ever heard of the participants or many of the companies involved, but I deeply don't care about

The same thing has happened in New Zealand, I can't find a reference right now but it was last year/year before and drug squad police who attached the tracker.

So the sort of person who buys these cases is the sort of person who texts someone while driving BEFORE going back to check if the thing survives, and then hangs out in the emergency lane with a kid in the car while he checks if it still wo

Sure, but look at the clusterfuck above where people are arguing about something called Quora -- they can't even agree on how you log into the site, because some people only saw it when you had to use Facebook. Users will only give you one

That XKCD made me go back through a whole lot of my "low security" sites and change the password away from the same old thing I'd used for ages. Still funny though :)

I've noticed exactly the opposite on recent flights between NZ and Australia -- they're now a lot more tolerant about having mobiles in flight mode (and specifically say so in the pre-flight announcement) and they let you turn your phone on

Hi Steve - it's "Palatino". I also have "Palatino Linotype" and it looks fine now that I've knocked off Palatino. It's a problem I've come across previously on Windows, I think Sun's Java was also installing some horrible version of Palatin

Great read. Among other things it made me dig deep into the heart of my Vista machine and find whatever font was making your site (and others) utterly unreadable. The answer is shitty Palatino fonts installed by HP, presumably as part of a

eBay's not the winner everywhere. Here in New Zealand they got comprehensively beaten by Trademe, so nobody here uses eBay at all. Now who's going to make the Trademe killer!

Nice post. I haven't used Runkeeper on iPhone, but on Android is "big and slow-moving" just as he says Nike is. Endomondo on the other hand is small and fast and seems to do all the same stuff. Interesting market segment to be in, I'm sure

Wow - in Chrome on Windows 7, that Sproutcore sample page uses 40% of one core of an i7 just sitting there doing nothing. Hopefully that doesn't carry over to a mobile Webkit browser as well...

Not sure if that's only on Facebook US servers or it's been disabled already, but from here in NZ there's no such info leakage, you get a very boring error page. The only thing you can discover is whether the email address you entered is a

I would have gone for Wellington rather than Auckland. There's been several large success stories out of Wellington and there's a fair bit of VC cash, they're trying hard to get a good startup culture going. Tons of tech companies there. Ex
