I'm part of the technical leadership at a company who is transitioning from small to medium-sized company. This article is disparaging virtually all of the initiatives we're trying to actually implement. It's actually really

Don't be too harsh on your interviewers here. There are many cases where HR gets some vague idea of the open position and then forwards seemingly qualified resumes, which the recipients are then obligated to interview regardless of wh

I disagree with this. Writing a set of "technical objectives" that say how a thing will work takes an hour at most and it helps you think through it better than a conversation. It also helps you pass information to QA. If someo

This is about as comprehensive as you can get in terms of what really matters in a good tech lead broken down into a few paragraphs. Who needs a book?! :)

Love this point. Not sure if it can be called cynical or not, but a really smart kid would definitely miss out on a networking opportunity with the parents of a legacy friend. Think Bighead from Silicon Valley.

Wow we are really behind. I did not realize that Fabio was in danger of being abandoned. Do you have a recommendation on what we should be doing? I guess we can move to nginx as we have experience with that. Fabio was really nice cuz it

Kudos to your team. We have had great success with Nomad/Consul/Fabio. My only issue has been that there isn't a lot of insight into what is going on with Fabio. There aren't really any configuration options. I admit

I wish this article was titled 'Nomad is pretty great' since that was really the point being made here. Nomad is not a true alternative to Kubernetes. It does not support autoscaling out of the box, it does not have most of the

The architecture described here is pretty simple. The article states the fix was 20 lines of code. If this is the hardest problem you have to solve at work, I envy you.

The premise of your argument falls apart if you really think about it for a minute. Switching to a single-payer model doesn't mean healthcare jobs disappear. It would kill off the insurance companies, but it would not reduce the dema

As a seasoned AWS developer, I love this feature. However, I wonder how the increasing complexity of AWS affects new devs as they try to grok the offered services. AWS typically does a pretty good job hiding advanced features from beginne

It must be said that it is a lot easier to make money in a stock market that has had low volatility and no significant, prolonged dip in the last 5+ years. My own long-term investments have earned 20% return over the last 5 years with zero

My company is in the midst of a modest hiring blitz and it is really eye-opening how few applicants are actually writing SQL in the coding exercise as opposed to using a highly-opinionated ORM. More damning - in my opinion - is that they m

I couldn't possibly agree more with this article. It is still possible to do the kinds of things that Flash did now-a-days with HTML5 canvas, but it requires a lot more programming abilities than Flash required. Websites for design fi

IBM's business model is totally antiquated and exhausting for modern processes. We have had a nightmare trying to get IBM MDM's solution to finally admit they were not actually cloud-ready after saying repeatedly that they were.

This is such a bizarre post. If you have the self-awareness to admit this about yourself, you are probably not a poor programmer. Poor programmers do things like allowing an incoming request to spin up unlimited concurrent threads. Poor
