If you have interviewing skills, reverse the interview. Take the reins and guide them through it.

It could simply be an energy minimization strategy, since it has little or no consequence (perhaps due to pre-existing status or dominance) there's no point in spending energy on that. In a sense, to succeed you need to choose what you

78000 passengers a day? Isn't that too low? I'm from Buenos Aires and buses alone move 1.7M people each day.

6-9 hours. It depends. I need to be well slept to be productive. It's not the number of hours but the feeling that matters. I have taken naps at the office when I had a bad night to bump my productivity. If I don't, I'm just

In Argentina it has been the case that digital alterations of the human figure must be stated for several years, and people still use photoshop and just add a tiny disclaimer below. Pictures are roughly the same.

It's irrelevant, the bug is that the JVM published the String before String.value was completely initialized. This is in violation of the JMM.
797.
by juancn 9y ago
Java is the same, but final fields are special. The object cannot be published until they're completely initialized (unless the constructor unsafely publishes them).

This is a JVM bug, BigDecimal is thread safe, but there's peculiarity of the java memory model that the ARM JVM is not honoring and thus the bug.
799.
by juancn 9y ago
At most, per the JMM this can only initialize the cached string in BigDecimal more than once, but you can never see a partially initialized string. This is a JVM bug.

by juancn 9y ago
You cannot see a partially constructed String in this case, there are very string visibility guarantees in the JMM post JSR-133. This is a JVM bug.

by juancn 9y ago
It's a bug in the JVM, value is final and assigned in the constructor after the array is fully initialized, so it's impossible as per the JMM to see a partially initialized string. My guess is that the RaspPi VM is buggy.
802.
by juancn 9y ago
It cannot do that, value is final, so value has to be fully initialized before publishing. The only way that could happen is if the String constructor unsafely published the string (which is not the case)

by juancn 9y ago
There isn't a race condition. There's a JVM bug. String's value is final and assigned a copy of the array, so it's impossible to see a string that's not completely initialized as per the JMM

I re-discovered bubble sort when I was 12, with a deck of cards and a C64. It wasn't until I got to college that I learned it had a name. I believe it's a very intuitive algorithm, it has likely been rediscovered many times.
