How about we align incentives instead? Here's an idea: when a student graduates, they allocate 1% of their yearly salary to their favorite 5-10 teachers for the next 5 years. I call it the "thankfulness tax". Incentives align

That's because egui uses an "immediate mode" approach: it's rendering everything from scratch every time something _might_ have changed (e.g. a mouse move could've trigged a hover effect). Whereas the DOM uses "

In my experience it's surprisingly fast. Egui doesn't need to redraw when it's idling, only when you're interacting with it (mouse move) or it's animating something so IMO it's not a big deal. I have to admit t

On the other hand you have Figma and Google Docs as examples of canvas-based applications that work well enough. I admit there are additional challenges to using egui on a Web context, but when you're building a highly interactive appl

Egui keeps getting better and better! For those unfamiliar you can run the web demo on your phone or desktop: https://egui.rs I’ve personally built relatively complex UIs with egui. Both a Chrome extension and a VSCode extension

It's awesome to see Jon Gjengset's work being used in production. He has one of the best Rust youtube channels IMO and goes deep into Rust nuances. Highly recommended for anyone trying to learn Rust or deepen their understanding.

This is exactly what I've done for Membrane[0]. It's capabilities based, even to get the time (and thus introduce non-determinism) you need a capability. Dependencies run as separate processes and everything is orthogonally persis

To prevent accidental leaks perhaps Github et al could implement a mechanism analogous to the Eurion constellation [0]. E.g. A commit containing a file with a specific text pattern should always be rejected. Most fileypes accept arbitrary c

On a related note: Is there anyone working on a faster tsc? I know there's esbuild and swc, but those only transpile, they don't type-check.

Very interesting. I saw the demo of the photos and it makes me wonder how you use didgets on your personal life and how it's a better UX than the alternatives. More programmable at the very least, I'm assuming.

Rust memory is not manually managed though. At least not in the sense where you have to remember to free things or not use dangling pointers. The amount of memory management in (non unsafe) Rust code, at least in my experience, is minimal.

To clarify, egui has a mode where it only redraws while you're interacting with the app (e.g hovering, clicking). It doesn't do anything while idle (e.g. In between keystrokes)

I find myself thinking about the answer before looking at the options. Also, not reading the prompt but trying to figure it out by listening. If it's too easy, you can make it a bit more challenging yourself.
