I don't think it's an exaggeration. It's not so much a compatibility problem, just as it wasn't for Windows, but instead it's a business problem. Google is increasingly unable to get new features to market in a timely fashion. They can side

Most cable set tops have dedicated decryption, video/audio decoding chips so the main CPU available for running the UI is very weak by design. Cisco & Motorola make these set tops pretty much by spec of what the big cable providers want

There are probably better ways of doing this but I just use Chrome now exclusively for Google services. I don't login to Google on my primary browser anymore. I'm hoping this will limit their stalking a bit. I don't mind if they read my mai

I think that's exactly where they're heading. Apple filed for a patent a couple of years ago for an iMac style enclosure that could dock a tablet computer. It probably makes more sense to do this via a tablet instead of a phone.

Also from the article: Putting direct IP access to the broadcast channels on the cables is a much better approach. I agree it's a better approach and offers more benefits to consumers in the long run.

Isn't this really more about OCD-ish behaviors than notifications? There's no good reason you have to act on every notification you receive unless you want to. In most cases you have a choice to even receive the notifications in the first p

Spitting in the face of user intent like this is really crossing the line of what is acceptable in my opinion. I'm not really concerned about my privacy but I do need to have some faith that the settings I am choosing are being respected. I

With a SSD and plenty of RAM load-times are a non-issue for the most part. I often leave applications I use frequently (or even infrequently) open for weeks at a time. There's not much downside in doing this besides some extra clutter in yo

I also work in the industry and I can confirm all the discussions I've heard on the ClearQAM issue come back to the cost of delivering services and contracts with programmers. Each one of these service calls to install/remove a signal trap

Not necessarily. This could be done through most of the existing equipment customers own. An iPad app just needs the right IP address to tune a digital video stream that's arriving via your existing cable modem / router. Same thing for a st

I kind of do, yes. OSX Server gained a simple user interface mode but otherwise is basically the same thing and now it's only $50. Just install the Server Admin package. It's exactly the same as 10.6 You can do HTTPD, VPN, POP/IMAP mail ser

I really like where Apple is heading with OSX. With iCloud and a common set of features/services iOS and OSX are developing a very symbiotic relationship. It kind of confuses me to see people saying Apple is trying to turn OSX into iOS. It'

Is there any specific reasons you wouldn't want AirPlay, Notes/Reminders/Messages, notifications, etc? It seems to me those are all very good features to add to OSX that happened to debut on iOS first.

In my experience that's pretty much the exact opposite of how enterprise IT works. That's why we tend to end up with so much miserable hardware/software. It's usually a calculation of cost/technical adequacy/ease-of-support. User preferen

With newer machines (2011 MBA, Mini, maybe the iMac too?) you can even start the OS install straight from the boot loader. It basically net boots the Lion Recovery image and then proceeds with downloading/installing the OS. Pretty slick.

Maybe paid upgrades are the answer? 20 million devices, $30 for the ICS update, 5% take rate = $30 million dollars. Considering random teenagers in web forums can produce pretty good functional ports there's no way it will cost Samsung more
