Wow, I didn't know that. Also, only 75 USD per virtual server. For some reason I had a much higher number in my head. Happy to pay this (and support the Ubuntu team) to keep some old boxes up for a couple more years.

Congrats to the Gitlab team! Very happy on-premise Gitlab user, for both our relatively small scale SAAS and our digital agency. Our growth mirrored Gitlab's, so we started with the basic git hosting + issue tracker, and have added CI

Would this board be capable of switching AVB (IEEE 1722.1 specifically)? Existing switches are ridiculously priced, and this might be a great solution paired with some open source code for (home) music studios. https://en.wikiped

This is true. But there is the shortest term, say the 2030 goals (go full on wind and solar, there's still plenty of fossil base load that can be shaved off), and the 2050 plus subsequent goals. If we want to go full carbon negative (a

That's not normal. Both my Siemens washer & dryer will reach 10 years this December and both are working like new. Price wise in the 75th percentile models (of Siemens). The dryer is a heat pump model, which was quite a bit more ex

Disagree. I think this is a boon to E2E encryption. However you might feel, content filter legislation is unstoppable. It will just take a few high profile media cases for E2E encryption to be killed, otherwise. This is the right (privacy-c

I force myself to use it in the same way. With time, it gets better. But the speed I had from working 20 years in Photoshop is gone.

Sorry, I meant 'rich people' as a neutral term, I do not attach any value to it or intend to deride someone for their wealth. I think that in general people should do as they want, as long as they don't harm others. To rephra

Agreed. This really felt like an amusement park ride for rich people. Like a throw towards the edge of orbit. I'm sure there is some innovation coming out of this, but compared to the insane progress of SpaceX it's super underwhel

Everyone is talking about memory usage. But for me it's nuts how much CPU Teams is using when doing a video chat. Facetime video calls are barely measurable, CPU-wise, whereas a 1-1 call with Teams can easily occupy more than a full co

Believe it or not, most graphic designers are still using Adobe tools. Already hard to get them to move over to Sketch, but it's becoming the norm for digital design. Figma is popular in UI circles, but an exception outside of them.

Good write up, but this reads as a naive implementation of a single band compressor with gain compensation, a long look ahead, fast attack and slow release setting.

I love SQLite. Used it to set up a small PHP tool which allowed users to check if their data was present in the latest Facebook leak. Took 30 mins of coding, incl. data import. The tool got picked up by the national media and the tiny 1GB V

Completely agree. This has caused me endless frustration over the last... 20 years (wow, time flies). Wondering, do fonts need to be adapted to support this? Is the property 'cap height' typically available in fonts? X-height is.

Yeah, same here. It’s really nice to be able to spin up a clean Ubuntu VM on any provider, and just adding your repo, key and being an apt install away from deployment. Makes it super easy for us to deploy dedicated instances for Enterprise

At H5mag we use bare VMs and deploy using Debian packages. Build them with a Gitlab runner, push to a package server. Let the ‘nodes’ update themselves. It’s really nice since the only dependencies you have for deploying are rock solid.
