This is very impressive! The creator—Austin Appleby—also created MurmurHash, which is very useful for data structures like Bloom filters. The canonical MurmurHash implementation was released with a handy non-cryptographic hashing test suite

Hi, this is fun! The Algolia HN search site has a list of "cool apps" that use their API. https://hn.algolia.com/cool_apps I submitted a pull request to add your site to the list. https://github.com

I can confirm that Tor is very useful for exposing services when you cannot port forward! Specifically, I've used Tor for connecting to GitHub Actions virtual machines over SSH. This is great for debugging Actions without running them

For anyone reading this thread who may be in a similar situation: I wrote a script that allows you to use GitHub Actions as a computer. Any work you do can be committed to a repository and saved for later. It can either boot up a command-li

Thanks for the kind words! I learned more from the labs in that class than from many other classes combined. It was undoubtedly some of the hardest work I did during undergrad, but also some of the most fun and rewarding. For me, 213 was th

Hey HN! Made this as a student, and finally got around to open sourcing it. I've used it a lot, even after finishing the course for which I wrote it. Please open an issue if you see anything incorrect!

For what it's worth, if you're using Pandoc, you can set the HTML output to be "standalone" based on a simple template.[0] You can also include a standard header and footer to be automatically inserted for each generated

A friend showed me this game that a friend of his made. Despite the cute style, the puzzles get devilishly difficult fairly quickly, which is why I thought readers of HN would be interested! Despite many hours, I have no idea how to complet

It's worth noting that my extension is far from perfect – it turns out that determining whether a specific page has been submitted to Hacker News is far from a trivial problem to solve. In general, this is because multiple URLs can map

For what it's worth, I made a Firefox extension that will light up whenever the current page has been posted to Hacker News. I find that it helps me in situations like this, and also adds a lot of depth to regular Internet browsing. It

This is true, but linking to data URIs no longer works. Many browsers block them for "security reasons." In Firefox, a link to that page is not clickable for me: https://git.io/JssFK From a convenience standpoint,

Having written two apps that do this, I can confirm that it is an amazing technique, and criminally underutilized! My projects store and render entire pages from the URL and encrypt URLs (respectively): https://github.com/js

I spent some time looking at similar specs for more recent browsers, but wasn't able to find anything useful. This was for a proof-of-concept I made that stores entire web pages in URLs (creatively named "URL Pages") by base6
