Interesting. More influence from Windows (NT) than I expected.

You may have to mount it manually.

This is from memory so it might be slightly wrong, but in PowerShell you can write: Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name OpenSSH.Client

Same thing but you can install it via Windows optional features now.

We'll keep working on it. Hopefully we can win you back some day.

You’ll have to enable Hyper-V. If you’re having video card issues with Hyper-V + Windows 10 you can email me and we can try to figure out what’s going on.

Not quite. It doesn’t use the existing Hyper-V management stack, but it does use the Hyper-V hypervisor and (trimmed down) virtual device stack.

Well, there is a little bit of emulation. We have to encode and handle Linux-style file permissions, which has some overhead. We are working on making both the WSL layer and NTFS itself better. For example, in the upcoming Windows release,

We've made a lot of improvements in the last few months of insider builds. If there are still blocking issues, I'd definitely be interested in hearing about them.

I'm sorry that we don't provide a way to access the Linux portion of the file system directly from Windows yet. It's annoying, and we are working to improve it. For many use cases it suffices to symlink a Windows directory (e

Do you ever need to go the other direction, e.g. access NTFS-hosted files in the VM?

You can now! You can run .exe files directly from WSL, and we append your Windows path to your Linux path by default to make this easy.

WSL doesn't change the line endings, so you'll want to make sure that if you use Git for Windows along with it, you set it up to use Unix line endings. Most decent editors (including VS and VSCode) can handle LFs just fine. The mo

Well, it's true that the initial vector is often third-party software. But once you're able to run arbitrary code in a user-mode process running in a limited security context, you still need to attack some high-privilege component

Yep, fair. We haven't gotten the file system performance to where it needs to be yet. You may notice some improvements in the latest insider builds, but there is still much more work to do.

I work on WSL, so I'd love to hear what some of the limitations are that are holding it back from being as good as the experience elsewhere.

Has anyone analyzed SPARX other than the authors? It seems a little early to recommend its use.

Answering my own question, the paper [1] referenced by the post goes into some detail on this in section 9. [1] http://www.cs.utah.edu/~regehr/papers/undef-pldi17.pdf

It would be interesting to see a zoomed in view of how things perform at small numbers of elements. Perhaps an unsorted vector is actually the best up to a certain point, for example.

What's an example of a TypeScript program where erasing the type information won't produce valid ES6? I had thought Flow and TypeScript were the same in this regard, but I am not an expert.

I dunno, NT tied IOs to the initiating thread until Vista. This means that you had to keep the initiating thread around or your IOs would be cancelled. NT also has the same flaw mentioned in the article; it ties the IOCP registration to the

I thought I read somewhere that Gor's coroutines could combine allocations as a compiler optimization in some cases. In particular this seems like it would be useful when the compiler can statically recognize deep, unconditional branch
