This is really surprising. I thought that part of Rust's pitch was that the explicit ownership tracking made optimizations much easier. Is there a bug filed to fix this?

I helped work on the converter. That's correct; Pro is sufficient.

Who is the audience for that article? It doesn't seem designed to convince someone who doesn't already feel passionately about cyclists' rights.

Right now we're focused on server workloads only.

This is the "host networking service", which is a new service that manages VM and container networking on Windows.

It is likely that the .NET base class libraries block NUL and the other special file names that Win32 supports. This would explain why PowerShell (which is written in C#) behaves differently from cmd (which is written in C).

I think it's apparent that we write in C because of network effects and not because it's the best tool for the job. It's great that people like you can handle it, but I'd much rather write in a language that keeps my stu

In Windows 10 you can configure your Hyper-V VM to support nested virtualization, which will allow you to do this.

Atomic memory accesses do not require touching DRAM in the general case. The cost of an atomic operation on a modern Intel CPU is closer to 20 cycles than 100. You will see higher costs if you have two processors trying to access the same s

Vote here: https://wpdev.uservoice.com/forums/266908-command-prompt-con... . Currently we do "support" CP65001 in the console, but things break if you enable it. One of the problems, for example, is that .NET

Performance is always important. That's really been the main point of DJB's work -- crypto isn't widely used because it is too slow, so let's build fast crypto.

I think go build -i does the same without putting the result in the bin dir.

Very impressive. I didn't know tokens referenced their session by ID instead of handle; this seems like the most serious of the architectural errors here. I wonder if it can be fixed.

I think you have to use pointer events to detect the eraser -- e.button should be 5 for pointerdown events. I'm not sure how hard it is to use pointer events when available (currently only on IE/Edge, it looks like).

Cool. This works pretty well with a Surface pen. The only limitation seems to be that it doesn't recognize the eraser as distinct from the tip; it would be neat if the eraser would draw the transparent color.

You will never in your lifetime find a collision if you use v4 UUIDs generated from a CPRNG such as /dev/urandom. No one will.

Do you have measurements that show that urandom is slower than a SHA1 hash on Linux? I don't have a good sense for how fast/slow the read call is (obviously you can cache the fd across reads). Also, I can't find references to

Even if you could figure out the worst-case timings and how to simulate them in all cases, the performance would be unacceptable. The usual operations that are data-dependent in crypto algorithms are mov with a data-dependent address, and c

The author's conclusion that side channel attacks are unpreventable because x86 instructions execute in a variable amount of time does not follow. Side channel attacks that rely on variable instruction timing rely on _content-dependent
