Leave the computer running all the time. Never install software updates. Browsing for videos with keyboard is equivalent or better than browsing with phone. If you really want to browse with phone I guess you need a Firefox extension that c

No, the objections are stupid. Not only is the Firefox experience vastly superior to any smart TV app, but you can have easy and effective ad blocking on top. My best guess at why people don't want to do this is that we're conditi

I watch YouTube on my TV. Using Firefox, with uBlock Origin. We have a laptop plugged into the TV, with a bluetooth keyboard. It is a vastly superior experience to any smart TV I have ever seen.

I really don't understand why people go to the trouble of using Pi-hole that only blocks at the DNS level, instead of using uBlock Origin which can block at the DOM level. uBlock Origin is easier and cheaper to set up, less maintenance

A tailor makes clothes. To fashion something is to make something. To tailor something is to customise it. `cat` is a Unix command for concatenating files, which you could argue is fusing them together?

In this case I wasn't trying to say that em-dashes themselves are evidence of AI use. I was trying to say that mixing incorrect hyphen usage with correct em-dash usage is evidence of AI use. But... Using em-dashes is a signal. It&#

A big giveaway is that for most of the post the author uses hyphens instead of em-dashes, obviously because em-dashes are too difficult to type, but then uses em-dashes in a handful of places that sound exactly like the kind of thing ChatGP

I am an AI fan, I just thought the random specific irrelevant details sprinkled in the middle were out of place in such a high level overview. One technique I use is to paste a draft into a new conversation and let ChatGPT work on it some m

For sure programming with AI is a game-changer, and o3 in particular is really quite good at maths. I've tried getting ChatGPT to write blog posts for me as well, but it seems to struggle with knowing which things are important and whi

I actually don't really like the OpenSCAD-style interface. For me FreeCAD is the current state-of-the-art in CAD. But if you are into code-style SDF interfaces, I have some links on https://incoherency.co.uk/notes/

I'm working on a new open source CAD program for 3d printing based on Signed Distance Functions. Benefits of SDFs over the standard Boundary Representation (used in Freecad and similar) are that you can do "pattern" operation

This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. How can you be remotely unsure about whether you are conscious? It is inconceivable to me that you could be conscious and unaware of it. It's an oxymoron. Of course you can be unsu

The air was already there, the wing is being pushed into it, it seems to me that when the wing has passed it needs to end up all touching the same pieces it was before otherwise the wing will leave gaps in the air.

How do you understand the problem without writing any code? It's possible that people's experiences are different to yours because you work on a specific type of software and other people work on other specific types of software.
