Andrew Godwin (the author of django migrations and south before that) is working on something he calls Django Channels http://channels.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ . The aim is to bring it into core (possibly for 1.

We need to be communicating this to them, quantifying how their business could potentially be doing better, and offering products that they can spend money on. It's that last part that I think most OSS projects are having difficulty wi

The Django Software Foundation has just hired a part time person to organise fundraising [0]. There is also discussion happening around the community about trying to find a sustainable way of funding open source projects and Django in parti

If you like Ruby, Rails. If you like Python, Django. Both are full featured with active communities. The 10,000ft view of each is very similar.

This might be a good time to mention that Django is always trying to raise funds: https://www.djangoproject.com/fundraising/ The really quick turn around on tickets and pull requests is largely thanks to the Django Fel

It's CSS only changes to be backwards compatible. Here's a screenshot I dug up from google. http://imgur.com/3xGdZ04 The changes were originally released in a 3rd party package: https://pypi.python.org&

No, not really. Django is moving to an "almost semver" versioning system. The X.0 releases will be when deprecated features are actually removed. There are still some big ticket features that various people want to work on. These

First thing off the top of my head is tracking engagement etc. Also search? Not many things are simple anymore, especially when you're selling advertising space.

Yes, but there's nothing to say that an interpreter couldn't use the type hinting. Imagine a pypy-hinting interpreter that analysed the code and kept the hinting, it could theoretically JIT it better.

That's not a bad idea actually, I'll have a better look at it. Turns out my NAS supports running plex server, and my main samsung TV has a plex client app. I'm loading in all of my library and will give it a go. Cheers.

Australia tax hits again. Seems to be $130 here, but I think that's going to be the rough price I pay for any device I go for. The addition of chromecast is nice.

What I'm after is something that can run Kodi (xbmc) which links to a NAS for its media. Running Netflix is a nice to have. What devices are out there that I can use for this purpose? At the moment I have a fairly heavy htpc running Wi

The build server also does deployment. The deployment task positions the secrets for the app onto the appserver.

I still haven't seen or found a good way to deploy secrets in environment variables. My current practise is to keep secrets in a file on the build server, and the build server is responsible for positioning it correctly.

Yep, and despite promises of decreasing reliance on RNG, the most recent raid (Kings Fall) has more loot randomness than any of the previous end game activities. At each loot point you have a chance of getting loot or not. Fine, that's
