I was being brief because I was leaving work so I’ll expand a bit. An unmaintained library is usually more difficult to fix because fixes are no longer committed back or released. At that point you can choose to vendor and maintain your own

Because an Unmaintained library is worse than one you write yourself because bugs are much harder to understand and fix.

Which is why I suggested the middle ground of a pingback URL that clients or services can hit to give the publishers certain stats like aggregated counts. If certain publishers are not ok with those limitations there will still be a bunch o

This seems like a weird article. People are advocating for RSS to avoid “the algorithm” and to increase privacy. Yet the author recommends adding analytics (tracking) and a way for publishers to indicate priorities. No. That’s the opposite

Totally agree with you, and now that you bring it up in this way I think I want to change how we execute (Django) migrations at work. Create a separate user with higher privileges that can run migrations. Use that connection during the depl

I did a similar thing as a result of the gitlab incident. I use a custom iterm2 profile called "prod" that sshs into the production "shell box" and sets up a badge + bright colour. https://imgur.com/a

Does anyone have any good tools or processes for generating the kind of performance counters and information needed by this tool with a running python application? I'd love to be able to generate a flamegraph for a django app, for exam

We use Sumologic and it’s really nice. Much better than ELK. I’ve only used splunk in a evaluation context a long time ago, so I’m not sure how they’d compare. Splunk is just so expensive.

Of course I can say why, but you didn’t ask that question. His posts are thoroughly entertaining and well written. They’re long, but true to the title of “blog rants”. You might end up disagreeing with some of his opinions but that’s ok. An

That said, we definitely do remote interviews if you wanted to apply anyway. We don’t require someone to be on site for any stage of the process (though it’s nice to meet applicants face to face).

I mostly use the desktop app on Mac. I don't have like/dont like available on the iOS client, so presumably it's not supported on mobile. I think it's a newer feature so maybe it just hasn't made its way to mobile

See my comment a few above. Setup a virtualenv locally that your dev env points to for completions, but actually run the app within the container (with its own virtualenv). Docker is great for dependencies like databases and queues. I find

What I do is create the virtualenv locally that docker would also create, and point my editor to the local virtualenv. It gives me all of the intellisense locally. I still need to debug within the container/shell for the moment but I&#

Keeping the dict ordered is actually faster. There’s a link to a YouTube talk a little upthread that discusses the algorithms used. It’s really interesting.

The entire reason they decided to make it a standard rather than keep it as an implementation detail is to make things better for users. It’s not about just looking after cpython.

They’d already built a web based editor for cloud dev and ported it to electron as a desktop app afaik. They didn’t set out to make an electron editor.
