Something is off then. Are they in big cities? Do they not know where/how to apply? We’ve had a hard time hiring anyone, including entry level.

They are great for data exploration, data science, analytics, etc. I would NOT put one as a dependency on a user experience though.

I have yet to see streaming/event sourcing work well. Every time I’ve seen it used it’s caused more problems than it’s resolved. The main problems, out of order events and/or slow to propagate events.

It’s a scam, targeting unsavvy people who think there is a good chance they will make money or get rich. He grossly misrepresents the truth to trick them.

You have to have limits and minimum standards if you want well functioning markets.

It’s not satire at all when you’re scamming people out of their money.

Yes, and I’d add that the best rule of thumb is to make decisions based on optionality; minimum costs/risks with relatively large upside.

By that vague definition, any app/site with UGC is a personal social network which is not a very useful definition.

I had the same thought, but made the opposite conclusion. I setup gmail and outlook to work like hey and tried them for a week each. While it technically worked, their UIs are not optimized for that type of work flow so it was a lot more cl

Not sure why you’re getting down voted because you’re right. There is no magic to Hey, you explicitly tell it which “folder” a sender’s email should go to. It’s not perfect because some senders use the same address for different types of em

Thanks, really not sure what people are voting it down for. I know a lot of sr execs at big companies, they definitely aren’t optimizing for their work life balance or their mental health. Most seem obsessed with status and seem generally a

I’m not sure who he is thinking of when he says, “those who manage a corporation”. If he means senior executives then he is definitely wrong. Most executives do not have a high quality of work life. They may get money, power, and status, bu

I’ve been a coder for over two decades, and here’s my take on this. First, good employers want smart engineers, and bet that they can learn things quickly. You don’t need to have N years of experience with Kubernetes. Second, most of your j

It was very different in CA than it was in IL. demand far outpaced supply here in CA during the time we’re talking about.

I hate it when YouTube channels put the subject of the video at the end of the title. It gets cropped and I can’t tell which videos are of interest to me without clicking on each one to see what it’s about.

This has nothing to do with the ability to use a tool like git. Notebooks make sloppy practices easier, but all of these problems exist in non notebook code too. You have no idea how many times I’ve run into non notebook code that assumes a

There is nothing inherent in notebooks that prevent the use of tools like git.

It can be with work. This is basically true of all languages. I remember telling my team that I wanted them to use Java instead of python for some new service we were building because I wanted it to scale better. They were not happy about i

I have similar feelings. I’ve been coding a long time, and the longer I do it, the less sure I am about any of this stuff. The one thing I can say for sure, I find it relatively easy to jump into an arbitrary go code base and make sense of

No one is saying it’s a sure thing, but the fact that you have to pick the absolute worst time, and it still is a positive return over ten years, really proves it’s a good bet.

Right, so if you pick the absolute worst moment to buy, you still make a profit in 10 years. Sounds like a good bet to me, especially considering you have to live somewhere and pay rent or a mortgage.

There are exceptions for sure, Detroit for example. But they are exceptions. And yes, you need a ten year time horizon for the risk to be small. By 2014 the SF home prices were above the peak in 2007.

I’m guessing this is sarcasm, and yes, it’s not a sure thing, but it’s pretty close. Also, you have to live somewhere so the investment is offset by the rent you’d otherwise be paying.
