In general it’s also a problem with what is considered diverse. If you’re a white man from a poor family with no college education, the policy is to explicitly discriminate against you. If you’re a white woman from an upper middle class bac

If the average person actually knew what these initiatives meant they would be against them. In practice what it does is make it so members of designated groups typically win by default whenever they & other candidates meet minimum requ

They work fine but they’re relatively expensive. 3% of the total cost of a transaction can be a double digit percentage of the profit margin of a sale. Then there’s the risk of chargebacks etc adding more cost on top of that.

Walmart any other major retailers are about to start taking payments via Lightning Network this year. Will be able to pay from cash app or others without explicitly converting from USD. Cheaper and faster than Visa etc.

It isn’t obviously, it serves the exact purpose of conducting censorship on behalf of the regime without any hard govt power being employed. The legality isn’t what I’m concerned with — if that were the problem we would be able to solve thi

There’s really no need to post yet another “crypto is a scam” comment on every single one of these posts. I mostly agree but it adds nothing to discussion and we’ve all heard it a million times already.

Not really in the same ballpark as simultaneously banning an individual or a news story across every social media platform

HN has generally good & reasonable moderation and isn’t engaged in blatant political censorship, it’s not that complicated.

Hunter Biden laptop story was legit & censoring it across all social media simultaneously was absurd. Considering his financial connections to Ukraine & current events it’s even more fucked up that it was censored.

Hacker News isn’t comparable to Twitter. They’re not doing coordinated censorship with other big tech companies or working on behalf of intelligence agencies to spy on their users etc. Twitter & other large corps aren’t just private com

I don’t think it was ever cool & it’s kind of always been a low status job as far as white collar stuff goes. Lots of negative stereotypes about us.
