On related note, I let fear of plagiarism be an excuse not to publish content to blogs. I've since found free tools (i.e. Copyscape) that help protect content creators.

My feedback: 1) You could narrow down needs. Imagine how hiring a "tech person" to build a cloud service is too broad. 2) Read about marketing people with technical skills to understand what they do. Decent but dated example: http://okdor

Good insight. Made me wonder what would happen to volume if markets were open 24/7...but I'll leave that thought for another day.

Thanks for link. Given your experience, do you have any thoughts about a small circuit-breaker on every security that trips for, say any 3-standard deviation event? In a quick Google search, it seems circuit breakers do not kick in for firs

They are implementing the SNL skit where Mayor Giuliani fights graffiti by adding "sucks" right under it. http://www.hulu.com/watch/277719

This struck me: "Even if you didn’t click on the Like button, Facebook probably has a pretty good idea of what your next purchase will be." I imagine the people best able to predict my next purchase issued my debit card, no?

Great initiative; hope you get the internship. I showed it to a friend who hires ~5 interns per summer in Austin (more communication / consulting, less technology) and she loved it. Good luck!

I tend to agree but offer this quote from CNBC / Becky Quick: "Buffett generally reads five newspapers a day -- the Journal, the Financial Times, the New York Times, USA Today and the Omaha World-Herald. Make that six -- he reads the Ameri

I've seen it work for him in person in Austin about 7 years ago. I think (some) local entrepreneurs value his gusto. His reasons seem different than party crashers from DC, he just does extraordinary things to be able to talk to successful

The most effective sales quota scheme in my corporate experience: 10% higher sales than your last quarter. There are many more complicated systems, but this one was very difficult to game.

Me too; good advice. My two cents: Remember contracting is a decent bridge / fallback; maintain corporate relationships. Get a revenue problem - multiple friends failed by obsessing over business structure. Change attitude on risk/analysis

Congrats. My answers below; just celebrated year one of self employment. Often doesn't feel like I imagined. Why started: 1) Age: Start now or never 2) Independence: Prove I could scratch out my own living 3) HN: Seemed possible Happiest:

Stay productive. Use resources at your university recruiting office now; you are paying for it. Higher pay will come later with reputation and quality work. I don't know about being a foreign student but you are likely better off than most:

Don't want to give away the farm yet.. I'll say broadly it's professional services. It's an obscure niche full of NDAs, a culmination of my past jobs in different industries. Will share more as I can. Sorry for lack of specifics.
