Nice idea but it breaks horribly if you have a smooth / bouncy scroll plugin (like Chromium Wheel Smooth Scroller) installed. I don't know if it's easy to detect plugins in Chrome any more, but if you can't you might want to mention that so

I don't think the community should be laughing too loudly about enterprise XML, given the security difficulties Rails has been having with its serialisation formats. How much did people lose in that Bitcoin exchange hack?

Seconded, I have that Lansky set and it's the best sharpening system I've used, and very fast and accurate, whether you're grinding a blade to a new angle or touching up an existing edge.

Who'd have thought it? Hugely dynamic language turns out to be difficult to audit or analyse for security issues. It was never about Java(C, C++) vs. Ruby despite what fanboys on either side made out. It was about conservative vs. devil-may

I don't have a problem with curation; Sturgeon's Law goes double for blogs, and I'd be happy to have someone else filter the crap. It's not like it won't find somewhere else to get published or self-hosted. Honestly, the way some people are

And yet you listed it. No doubt you have it on your paper CV as well. And when I ask you about it in a tech. interview, what then? Will you have the balls to tell me why it's all crap?

My fault for being lazy and using it as a shorthand for "all countries between longitudes 120W and 30E", give or take a few degrees. No offence intended, I just don't live there!

Much for the same reasons I run my own mail server - because I can, I learned something doing it, it gives me more control than I'd otherwise have. I also don't trust any network with plain-text credentials so TLS was a requirement for mobi

It's not whether I think Turkey is "West" or "East", it's more than I just don't interact with Turkish websites - so why should I broaden the attack surface of my browser unnecessarily? I realise that the CA -> domain mapping is a poor

Quite. You, are, of course, free to run your own CA. I rather like my version (a custom minimal Linux virtual machine, ~ 16MB, stored on an IronKey). Built from source, reasonably tamper-proof, works offline, encrypted at rest. It's a bit o

At least on my Android devices, you can select which root CAs to trust via Setting -> Security -> Trusted Credentials. Click on TURKTRUST, scroll down and click "Disable". Repeat. YMMV as I'm running Jelly Bean on both phone (CM10.1

I'm afraid that was my response. I doubt I'll need them, and I'll re-evaluate if I ever do, but as far as I'm concerned TurkTrust is not a valid CA. Here's how on Windows (you can't delete them, they come back with the next CA update): IE,

It's basically a way for those who are secure in their own identity to inform others of the essential pointlessness of their existence. Fads and trends are actually a con-trick; they bring new cults of personality to our lives. Deriding peo

The lead-generating scumbags need to be clamped down on, hard. When a phone service provider sells YOUR customer data to the highest bidding lead-generator, you'll agree with me. Telefonica - you are scum, and you've lost as many customers

Has it occurred to the advertards that perhaps one of the reasons behind the rush to mobile/tablet devices is that the user experience is SO MUCH BETTER without the insanity that is the advert-polluted desktop internet? After all, $12 milli

One thing not mentioned so far is the use of high pressure fuel pumps for common-rail injection petrol engines. This used to be something you only found on diesels. The lubricity of diesel fuel is a factor in the design and longevity of th

It's inherent in everything the Ruby community does - sooner or later someone will come along and write a 14 page diatribe about how DHH is full of shit and then flounce out in a cloud of opprobrium.

If anyone is tempted to try this without purchasing a suitable kit, make sure the parts are suitably rated. The 250V non-polarised C2 may be safety critical if it's a line to line or line to neutral capacitor - look for an "X" or "Y" markin

Where is the stable, open source CardDAV & CalDAV server, equivalent to Courier IMAP/POP? All I can see are Zimbra, some other half-finished Exchange replacements or PHP monstrosities, or an unmaintained mod_caldav for Apache. All I wan
