Some people find dogs threatening... I personally don't, but I do find rooms for adults filled with play-doh, comfort blankets and rabid third wave feminists a bit threatening.

Here is my (completely unsupported) prediction... People involved in "safe spaces" or passing out fliers against "rape culture" (not rape, that's a crime and a different subject), generally, on average, after colleg

I'm guessing the company in the article that limited bathroom breaks to 6 minutes probably did so not out of desire for control, but because there had been abuse, and so in typical bureaucratic fashion, they made an unreasonable policy

Well... that's certainly one approach. Hire people because you like them. Though it probably isn't the best approach for getting results.

If you don't have an hour or two as an interviewer, you probably aren't getting very good results. This is a pretty small investment of time considering what is at stake.

I like this approach. It's pragmatic. After all, it's not what a person knows (nor who they know) that produces results. It's what they do.

I have to say... that was an excellent post. I would have just voted it up and left it at that, but I thought it deserved a little extra. Very good take on the subject.

My boss had some leftover budget money and decided to get some tech toys. He got a drone with a camera and a 3-D printer. I was skeptical of both. The drone was totally awesome and I want one now. The 3-D printer took a day to print some cr

You can cheat on exams, but you can't cheat when it comes to to produce. You either do, or you don't do it. It's like stealing. You might get by doing it, a few people might get by, but everyone can't steal for a living.

I suspect it won't be terribly long before we have genetically modified plants to produce a more complete fat and amino acid profile, and this will essentially replace meat in most cases. Probably this will happen before anything like

Maybe a comprehension test isn't a bad idea. It would probably keep just as many whites from voting nowadays as well.

I seem to remember years ago reading that the Japanese language was related to Finnish and considered to be in the same family. Maybe things have changed or I'm mis-remembering.

I just turned 44 and I'm passionate as hell. Always have been. When the passion starts dying, I know its time to do something else. I've been a nursery grower. I've been a produce grower. I've been a landscape contractor

I didn't get into programming for money. I got into it because it's something I really like doing. If this isn't you... I feel bad for you. Life is too short to spend your working days doing something you don't care for.

Also a cell phone cost $7000000 in 1950. So if we look at the change in terms of cell phones rather than in terms of pieces of paper with pictures of dead white guys on them, wages have gone up over a million time while productivity has onl

You can't move almond trees to other areas. They wouldn't thrive there. You might as well suggest moving a Banana plantation from Honduras to Montana to save on shipping costs.

Correct. There are only a few areas in the world almonds can be commercially grown. California is one. Cattle can be grown lots of places.
