Smh. I’ve modelled the economy too. For simplicity, I model every actor as a pool ball on a pool table. Collisions are transactions. While simple, my model really challenged some preconceived notions about how the economy works.

So: on net, the single distribution channel provides access to paying customers, in turn making it easier—-not harder—-for indies to build a business there. Which makes it wrong to say iOS’s single distribution channel is bad for indies: it

If the walled garden is that bad for indies, indies should do way better on Android, right?

> Extremely difficult to build an indie business on iOS given that there is a single distribution channel that you don't control. Would this imply it is easier to build an indie business on Android?

The deep problems of “informed consent” are apparent in medical studies/treatment. Few patients are equipped to be informed because they don’t have a med school degree. Since users ”can’t be informed” about tracking, it doesn’t make se

That would be laughably ineffective. Police would be off protecting garbage dumps and book club meetings while banks get robbed and protests devolve into violence.

I’d bet protecting regular thing on a regular basis is rather what staves off “dysfunction”. Not allowing police to protect it might get you some real dysfunction.

Whoa; that seems to imply police shouldn’t protect any single individual targeted by a large mob?

Being a consumer, you would be part of helping the market filter these out. I don’t want to help my grocer “filter out” spoiled foods too often. I’ll go to a grocer that filters a bit before stocking.

Personally: Part of what I buy from Apple — the “job” I “hire” them to do — is curation.

Okay so we all hate this “censorship.” How can they punish all app users for the potential wrongdoing of a few? Meanwhile, remind me, how do we feel about gun sales in the US? If Target takes a rifle off their shelves, will we exorcise Targ

I’m not aware of any “science” on this, it’s gut level for me. Was TFA unconvincing? If you usually need hard numbers to disprove the effectiveness of treatment, be sure to stay away from homeopaths.

I thing you greatly underestimate the cost of these ineffective actions. Using non-recyclable paper straws, selling my oil shares to someone else, etc. make me feel like I’ve done my part, and I’ll happily kick back for the rest of the day

We need to pursue _everything_? Your time is surely scarce. Wouldn’t you want to pursue only the most effective things? Every minute you spend arguing for divestment is a minute you don’t spend arguing for nuclear.

This reminded me of the counties (or whatever) that became reliant on fines from big tobacco. The incentive for the tax collector is, absurdly, to keep the negative externality going. Maybe good economic policy should examine both ends of t

It’s not possible IRL. If I want my picture gone from the high school yearbook, nobody will help me track down every copy and mask the image. If I want the local grocery cashier not to greet me by name, I can’t make them forget me.

The bigger issue is when Ford put the motor inside the car. Now I need a mechanic to replace the motor. Horrible. Use to be anyone could just switch it out.
