I think part of the problem is that most industrialized nations have pushed for high percentage of the population to have a college/university degree, while not considering whether the degrees are needed for the jobs that are going to be av

I presume that most people who have lots of tabs open, like I do, use addons that make finding tabs fast. I use Tab Kit to organize the tabs in trees, and Pentadactyl to give me fast search that is activated by pressing b. I can't imagine u

More accurate title would be "Something like, but not as useful or generic as, lambdas in gcc's dialect of C".

While off-topic, this is relevant. I don't like it either, and I think there are many others who would agree. Have an upvote.

How many times does irc need to be re-invented before it's considered fully invented?

Firefox and Ubuntu: making sure that no-one ever again is confused whether or not FOSS might be usable for people who have other things to do than updating their software.

If xterm, less, ls, vi and others would take 3 seconds to start, I would never get anything done. I think it's sad that people think that 3 seconds is fast (unless the program is loading some big data of course).

Apparently one doesn't need to be awake, sane or sober to become an enterprise "programmer".

> what happens if electric vehicles do become popular? That is a really strange question to ask. I think more appropriate question would be "what does it take for electric vehicles to become popular".

What exactly is different between X11 emacs and win32 emacs? I haven't noticed anything significant.

Silverlight is irrelevant, has always been, will always be. Maybe it won't completely "go away", but anyone who is betting a farm on it is an idiot that deserves what is coming at him (yes, him, women wouldn't be that stupid).

Probably not. But one thing I'd think is true is that no person that is primarily nice and sociable has ever done anything that has significantly advanced the state of anything worthwile.

Context-switching is slow, yes, but in the first example the cause of evilness is not context-switching, it's that you must program web apps' client side in JS.

There is no difference. That's why people who want to retain their sanity disallow Flash. And it's really fucking close that I don't disable all JS too.

How often do you need to endure that 20-30 second startup time? Is it every time you change anything?
