This move will keep more tech in SF and not in NYC, beyond just Amazon. For every Amazon we lose, we lose 50 startups to the valley. I can't believe NY politicians let this happen.

The Program Counter (PC) register is some of our most important state! Ever since Gotos were considered harmful, we've forgotten that it's just another register.

In about 5 years, we're all going to be on inline styles in JSX (or equivalent), flabbergasted that we ever thought CSS was a good idea. Calling it now.

Once you’ve learned programming, this book is maybe the perfect survey course to understand systems. It gave me a framework for understanding all the layers from CPU to ReactJS that 4+ years of college never could so concisely

SF is just worse at running itself than NY, Tokyo, and every other major city in the world. If we could accept that, we could could learn from and copy them to fix the city. YIMBY is too incremental— turn SoMa into mini-Manhattan to jump S

Most of the time we use json+http, we need an RPC mechanism, but are afraid to say it because the web people were duped into thinking REST is good.

It's an incentives problem. We could solve it if we checked performance like we do unit tests, and held developers accountable to a literal performance budget set by the business. > Few teams I’ve encountered have actionable metrics

Vue seems to have a lower learning curve for people with a background in webdev, because it's more relatable to the old school way of doing things. React seems better coming from other areas of programming, especially functional. Rea

If your designers aren't programming, they probably don't need to write HTML/CSS either. Full disclosure: I'm a founder of Pagedraw, which lets designers make UIs as easily as they draw them in a design tool, but are pro

Do note that you can use React with much less boilerplate! The nice thing about React is it's very easy to write abstractions on top of it, since it's just a small JS library. For example, instead of writing value/onChange&

I shouldn't have used the word 'certified'— I just meant the package version should have an associated commit hash. There has to be a relationship between the hash and the published code in some way, unlike eg. the "hom

Removing eval wouldn't help— you could always just write a tiny interpreter to do the same thing. This is a problem in any Turing complete programming language (with Reflection), although JS makes it easier.

Each version of an npm package needs a certified git commit hash. Otherwise when vetting an npm package, you have no idea if the code you're reading on Github is actually what you're going to download or not. In scenarios like th

It turns out it's really hard to get a UI Builder right with HTML/CSS. In particular, layout is tricky because DOM trees imply both bottom-up and top-down constraints. For example, text getting longer pushes down content beneath
