Well written article. I wrote a long comment about my views, sat for a bit, re-read the article, then deleted my banter because it wasn't adding anything interesting, but I do want to say these themes have been on my mind lately and I

Very exciting! libGDX is the best game library I've used, and I'm spending a lot of time with clojure these days. I'm excited to see what this can enable me to make.

Brilliant code comments, I've never seen this explained and it will come in handy.

Thanks, and I think that's a good idea about dev events, I'm in New York and just started realizing how many things are going on for game dev and creative coding around me.

Nice advice! I've been an 'aspiring indie' for 6 years now [1], definitely not doing enough to promote my ideas, but like you said, I need to make something and release it. [1] http://www.ludumdare.com/compo&#

Really late to the party, but I've always wanted to ask this: people say with infinite entropy every combination will occur eventually, but can't you have an infinity of gibberish?

That was brought up a lot the first time this was posted, but I think it's a good description for how he uses CSS class names with inheritance to structure things.

Why not throw your support at https://developer.mozilla.org/ ? They've done an amazing job of documenting HTML/CSS/JS.

What about inheritance? I'd rather start with 'header ul{}', then continue with 'header ul.nav{}' and 'header ul.nav.main{}'

I know this is simply about design and moving the concept of a content unit away from a container inside a page to a discreet unit, but I can't help but imagine that instead of saving bookmarks I had a collection of micro content. The

After spending the weekend playing with the new web component stuff, I have a feeling that HTML is going to be written for humans again. Layout and Interactive 'sugar' can be hidden away leaving the content and hierarchy that we

It's on a free tier amazon ec2. I'm actually amazed at how fast websockets are, I can get a good connection even on my smartphone.

Hey I remember that game. I was able to get a dozen or so people to log in at the same time towards the end of the competition, but I don't expect more of that during voting. (Also I can't seem to keep the server up)

Ludum Dare attracts game press media, if you make something neat and do a bit of seed promotion on the blog you'll get attention.

A pleasant scenario for web components would be replacing the social media button's script/html injection with a link to the component and a <x-tweet-this>.

Great explanation of why this is exciting. Separation of js/css/html is great for the top down structure of a project, but a major pain from the bottom up. I can see myself making heavy use of web components to fix that. Also it

Very useful! Semi-related question: is there a way to profile the stack within a requestAnimationFrame callback? I seem to remember having access to it in earlier versions of chrome, but now I just see the callback and garbage collection e

I like the point of this article, things that make me sigh while writing code are often the things I need to learn to do a new way. Before I started using multiple cursors in sublime text, I would invent interesting function patterns to avo

I hear this on HN quite a bit, but it's not that big of an issue. Most game developers don't need the raw speed of a native system. They do need to create something that can be played by everybody, and is easy to develop for. Th

This is great! I just got a raspberry pi and was looking into running a browser as a kiosk and making a file manager that works with a gamepad as the only input device. Also reminds me of a cruddy file browser I was working on for servers

HN comments are heavy on critique. Maybe that's a side effect of an aggregator and a culture that discourages trivial chatter. A year of keeping up with HN has been a crash course on how to build things for the internet. I don't know what

Clients understand the value of design, but the development costs are an overhead. They expect the finished site to be delivered as soon as the design has been finalized. Meanwhile, the front end developer is sitting there typing away, con

I get this too. It happens to a lot of @fontfaces when viewed in chrome and I've never seen a solution on how to fix it, although I've heard it been called a 'solved' problem. I'd love to figure this out.

Very slick and great filesize. I've been working on a wysiwyg document editor and am very tempted to use this. My only problem is with contenteditable in general, which is hard to convince to use <p>'s. I'm rolling my own paste f

I'm planning on s3 to serve my static assets, and hoping to mitigate this by serving a small file from a traditional server that checks up on all links and does the whole back off request dance if there is a problem.

This is such a good critique. As someone who's done a bit of architectural rendering, I think pivoting to selling models inside of the big name 3D apps would be very profitable. I can imagine the plugin actually inserting the model you're
