I started trying to learn Zig as my first non-GC language but switched over to C because I had trouble finding learning resources for Zig, while there are plenty of books and C code written to ISO standards to learn from. It felt like a lan

The best way to collaborate would be just sending patches, either with git send-email or as an attachment to a regular message. Then the author applies them and the repo/stagit will display the change. https://git-send-email

I’m a HUGE fan of these two and I’ve been tinkering with DAWs a little in my spare time so this is absolute gold for me. Thanks so much for writing it up and sharing it.

If you add a git-daemon-export-ok file to the repo, it's accessible read-only over the git protocol. That's how all my repos on https://git.jeskin.net are setup. https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2

Yeah I'm sure you could. I use that VPS for my blog and personal projects also so I wanted to keep resource utilization to a minimum and not administer a webapp.

gah, you're right. perhaps that could be fixed with a few clever grep/sed incantations. very interesting repo if you're the author, by the way.

For me, checking and replying to emails is quicker with a CLI client than with a traditional mail client. It’s easier to jump around and pick apart email threads from my text editor than a GUI app. And Aerc’s piping is nice, it makes it eas

I swapped over to aerc from mu4e, it’s very pleasant to use. I would easily recommend it.

When you lose traction in your car from rain or snow, your instinct is probably to countersteer, but you should instead steer into the turn and countersteer when you regain control. I can't remember if they actually taught that in driv

Lua’s language server can be nice for detecting unwanted globals. It gives you a warning whenever you declare a global that starts in lowercase, which works nicely if you’re okay with using uppercase globals as a convention

I recently learned lua and wrote an alternative to bat that outperforms it by an order of magnitude. I thought Rust was supposed to be fast! :) https://jeskin.net/blog/clp/ Love the language!

You're right, that isn't worded very well. Thanks for the feedback. Edit: I've updated the sentence to one which is arguably better but still not good. Writing is hard!

I’m glad you’re in a better industry now, and I’m extremely grateful that you wrote up your blog posts and books while dealing with that. They’ve been instrumental to my journey in programming.

I don't really care about startup time personally but the linked page mentions "very low memory usage" which is quite a contrast with Clojure which seems to use insane amounts of memory for simple things.
