Nobody likes watching stuff in the mushy middle. Rightwing wants Fox news, Leftwing wants MSNBC. Always better to specialize.

Government spending Pie chart in the article is a oft repeated lie. They don't include "trust fund" payments like Social Security and Medicare in it. Why? It's $1.89 trillion. But that doesn't count for some reason. Anyways, better source i

I honestly didnt know Puppet had such widespread adoption. The tech buzz always seems to favor Chef which is why I have more exposure to it. Puppet does seem to have much much better docs on their homepage. However Chef is way more reusable

Dennis Forbes really seems like the much more rational debater in this exchange. I do like reading the back and forth. They both make good points, and this is an argument with real applicability to help us decide what tech to be using in th

There's a lot of useful functionality here that comes in handy. Just as a standard library, I think its useful. Ruby Hashes and Enumerators have way more functionality than the stock js types. Is it worth the 40k minimized for the full incl

Great point. The thing I'm interested in on these new data storage technologies is at the low level, rapid development, early stage (low traffic) portion of a project since thats where I'm at. I'd rather be able to remove barriers like havi

I think the parent author's main point is they used a defective RDBMS as a representative example of all. MySQL does not do certain things well. However many mature RDBMS's have solved these problems and its worth pointing that out before y

Haha, Friedman belongs nowhere near the New York Times. He'd be better suited as the whacky Social Studies teacher somewhere in the midwest (ok, he reminds me of my old social studies teacher). Another funny article where Jonah Goldberg has

I mostly agree with that. Probably because I consider myself a good programmer and am perfectly fine to delegate all sysadmin stuff. I think the point is they are distinctly different skillsets. Programming is very different from setting up

Anyone know if there's similar services for non-recurring payments? I'm currently planning on using e-junkie but its kind of a piece of crap. Looking for a slicker integration similar to spreedly or chargify.

to avoid having to create an account and log in just to view the docs, can anyone give details on how this is implemented (technologies, etc)?

The plaintiff is "a 12-man operation that gets most of its revenue from licensing its intellectual property". So they sue people who use stuff they've patented but don't actually use themselves. Patent law badly needs to change.

It's the economist so I'll put up with anything they throw at me since they have such good content. Plus the ad was for their own product, and not some 3rd party crap. I guess I'm just happy whenever I can actually access an article there.

Great, except no ones spending the money on roads. 99% of its going to entitlements (year long extension of unemployment), money to states to shore up their underfunded pension plans, and a nice $250 bribe to our elder population.

Agreed. Wild speculation, but I think the Firefox codebase might have hit critical mass and its just too hard to manage it. I'm anticipating using Chrome much more once webkit improves their dev tools to surpass firebug (what's the hold up!

Firebug is obtrusive, buggy, and slow. However, for the reasons this article suggests, and some others (no right click - delete element in web inspector), I'm stuck with using Firebug for the foreseeable future. I can't wait to replace it w

Big mistake by the developers. Also a reason I tend to try sites like this with my disposable twitter / gmail accounts. All in all, I do like the site and the idea. Very similar to hi.im, but a tad more stylish.

I ditched rails long ago because it's simplicity was an absolute nightmare when you actually wanted to build something that wasn't a clone of basecamp. From my experience so far, Rails3 is a breath of fresh air. Easy to get up and running,
