Nah, the "Opt In" is just for the new version of the Silverlight player. Netflix on demand has always been silverlight based.

This seems a bit crazy. To my surprise, Silverlight has worked awesome on my mac. This link is just a trial for a new beta player. Is the "up in arms" part that they still don't support PowerPC? PowerPC is sorta on its last legs anyways. Ev

Ran IE6 one from Fusion and it basically shows a white screen on every page. Not so great. Cool idea though. Hopefully the smooth the kinks over.

I wouldnt be surprised if there's a few kids at that very same school making 100k a year. I was hacking for 30/hr in my spare time in high school (10 years ago), and these days, all a kid needs is a bit of motivation to learn all the web de

Would be much nicer if MacPorts was preinstalled so that everyone can install and update their packages as needed.

Only if you could filter them somehow. Most omnisio comments weren't serious. Half of the lecture comments would be idiots making fun of the instructors hair.

Looks like MIT's stuff is licensed under creative commons, which means noncommercial. Wonder how hard it would be to get commercial authorization.

This is a pretty incredible compilation of lectures. I also really like the fact that they post Sample Exams, so you can test your learning. My question... whats the licensing of these materials. What would stop me from setting up my own mi

RSS was a welcome addition, but its not quite there yet. Any decent mashup still needs to screen scrape. Screen scraping craigslist is easy, and I don't mind it at all. Only problem is the fact that if you happen to become successful, they'

They need an API, badly. Very dumb of them not to have one already. It would be a huge value add to their service. I don't know what's the problem. Either they dont have the technical resources (unlikely), or they've made a conscience decis

Spitter was probably from a PR firm. Remember this post? http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/17/death-to-the-embargo/ A little spit never killed anyone, and I would say any controversial figure is going to encounter that every once in a whi

ASP.NET isn't the worst technology to use for a startup. There's lots of useful prebuilt components for it (commercial usually, but the value is still there). Microsoft is also offering some pretty good hosting platforms for startups, and u

Great strength, but also a great weakness of jQuery. My most common jQuery bug is a rule that doesn't get applied correctly (wrong selector) and it just fails quietly. It's very hard to write console.log statements, or even do debugging bre

Prototype alters stuff but jQuery doesn't. So there is very little conflict. The use of Prototype however will prevent use of other altering js frameworks like MooTools. Fundamentally I think Prototype/MooTools are horribly designed javascr

There's a lesson to be learnt here. Printing money = Inflation. I know it seems obvious, but the Federal Reserve has printed about 800 billion dollars so far, and if our government ends up with a 2 trillion dollar deficit in the next few ye
