Oh yeah, missed the "cable" part. But I've seen the same thing with fiber in the UK and Germany. So the ISPs upgraded to fiber but kept the old (very) asymmetric speeds... I mean, at least have it be something more reasonable

Many servers specifically throttle single connections, which is why there's stuff like JDownloader and browser add-ons that download the same file in several parts over multiple connections
273.
by jotm 4y ago
I hate asymmetric connections. You get gigabit download but something stupid like 20-100 Mbps upload? Just why... Upload speed matters just as much as download these days.
274.
by jotm 4y ago
Damn, that's impressive. Technically I could get 2Gbps with the two providers running their own fiber in the neighborhood. But I don't even fully use one gigabit connection, running a torrent client is about the only thing that ca

Crank washers coming soon. Very energy efficient, environmentally friendly, fully custom cycles.

by jotm 4y ago
You can just watch the cycles and write it down, it's boring and rather time consuming. Hoover actually had a model with programmable cycles (you put your custom cycle on Android and upload it via an NFC tag on the washer). What you co

This is rather cool. I sometimes think about using a laptop motherboard in a custom built case and pushing the CPU/GPU to their limits (no bueno without that, BIOS must allow full voltage/TPL control). Is it practical? Maybe if yo

I don't see why that would be the case on a hardware level. Unlocking power limit (and maybe voltage) controls would be nice if just to see how far it can be pushed. Intel had unlocked TDP/TPL on many i7 chips and lower end models
