I remember my first internship. That was in 2001 and we were already talking about how great thin clients were. Don't forget that in most cases they are still more expensive than regular PC (eeebox at 250 bucks comes to mind). Because you

Thanks for the picture. I think I saw one in Poland as well. So that's what those are for ! Also, an obvious hack to monitor this "close-circuit" system: just attach a satellite transmitter to the output of a receiver. Even cheaper: make a

Even in a capitalist society, you need some socialist parts. The best example would be the roads. Who paid for it ? Tax payers. End everyone is happier for it.

This is very true. If you try to start a company on your own, you will see behind the curtain. That $1m is probably not all yours, and probably not 10% yours. I really recommend you start some business on your own, even be a freelancer. Tha

This article is not informative (or technical) enough, IMHO. It lacks : - The instruction set used is a MIPS-derived VLIW instruction set according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TILE64 - It needs to say that 99% of developers don't real

I can't agree more with you on that point ! Just reading it made me cringe for the author. Infant mortality is inversely correlated with usage of scientific medicine and hygiene. Look at history. Even now, we can inversely correlate any cou

But great hackers don't come cheap, if you manage to hire them at all (they want equity, plenty of it). If you can't secure the best hackers, you will loose to competition (it's them !)

What about creative fun ? For example with the piano-stairs, it's up to the "player" to change the melody as they want. In that situation, the novelty would wear off but people may find new ways to entertain themselves. A bit like emergent

Reminds me of this great (and fun!) book : A theory of fun. http://www.theoryoffun.com/ It's oriented toward game design but has some interesting thoughts about fun in general.

Is computing a hash over 4x4bytes (+1 protocol bit) really faster than looking up an address (that is only 4bytes long, btw) in an optimized routing table ? That seems counterintuitive to me.
