In watching how this news has been better (i.e. more acuratly and faster, and also rapidly self correcting) reported on HN then any other news source I'd have to say that HN itself is the relevant on topic idea that good hackers would

It seems to me that this graph represents newness not popularity (to the degree it represents anything at all). That is when tech is new or has a new release more questions are asked about it. Once those questions are answered, fewer and fe

However, as an american I can agree with the sentiment of a foreign citizen that we are the only ones who can effect change in our own government, centrally not him... unless he encourages us to be less complacent by restricting what we can

Well I ment that a little facetiously. However, I agree those things should be taken into account--in addition to including documents with the terms you ask for in them. Pages with my terms (in order) should be the absolute highest ranked,

It continues to amaze me how much hate bitcoin generates. Lot's of assertions in that article based on opinion. That's common with most technologies, but the vehemence is not. We've all seen some real apple haters, or Microso

I suggest you do a quick survey of the replies to this thread. Most people HATE it. Apple designed a browser that addresses the size issue, no reason to do it again poorly. I also suspect that developers, such as myself, are looking at a si

As Bruce Schneier points out in his book Beyond Fear humans are very bad at assessing risk accurately. Ask yourself how scared are you of terrorist attacks vs. heart disease. Notice how the government is putting much more money into the ter

Precisely. There is nothing wrong with reusing your content, so then why would you need a new interface for it? When you do truly need a new interface to something it's because the nature of the something is different. True mobile apps

Actually light sources have always been the only thing 'traced'. We used to use them to trick ray tracing in the early days of RenderMan (put an image in the lightsource so you can 'reflect' it). It's surface to surface and other GI effects

Interesting questions. I don't have the answers, but I can say that I can't imagine that Pixar would ever 'go all the way' to an 'unbiased' GI renderer. Our entire function in the filmmaking business is to tell a story visually, and for tha

Pixar's focus has always been on renderer efficiency for cinematic storytelling not really for accuracy or 'simulation'. So while I'd say they are still way ahead in efficacy they are at par or behind with respect to light simulation.

Actually there's some incorrect information here, Pixar started using ray tracing in films as far back as A Bug's Life. I can't find a picture on line but you can see it in the scene with the glass bottle. That was done by integration with

The fact that the value of copper changes is not relevant to it's intrinsic value. An item either has an intrinsic value or not, the price of that value doesn't really enter into it. Think of a dollar bill, it has a monetary value $1, but

Copper just sitting around has the intrinsic value of being copper, ledger entries do not. This is the meaning of intrinsic value. In other words if copper stops being used as money it still holds value as copper. You can melt down the coin
