While I agree that Grunt isn't rocket science, for purely front-end developers who aren't familiar with build tools, it can be quite challenging to get started initially. In order to start using Grunt you'd have to... 1. Inst

I have also noticed a similar effect on Verizon FIOS, where some video services work perfectly well during the day, but around 5pm or so start getting incredibly slow to buffer. Whether this is intentional throttling I'm not qualified

For open-source JavaScript projects, using Grunt or another Node-based tool makes it easier for Windows users to contribute. Node has excellent Windows support, while shell scripts are mostly the domain of *nix.

The problem here seems to be that you're using HN, a site about what is new as a way of finding out what you should be working with. That's like asking an ADHD kid what game you should be playing. You'll get a different ans

As of right now, they're just concatenated and minified into one file. This made more sense earlier in the project, and now I'm looking into other options, including Require.

I don't know if it's "hip," but I think it has a well-established place in the web development ecosystem, especially since using it is one of the defaults in Rails. Personally, I enjoy it and have been using it to build

You might find ngmin[1] helpful for that. Then you can use the shorter injection syntax and have it expanded via a compilation step. Since you mentioned Grunt, you'd probably want to just use grunt-ngmin[2]. [1] https://gith

You can probably start it by running codebox/bin/codebox.js directly. (It has the shebang line at the top, so no need to explicitly start node.) https://github.com/FriendCode/codebox/blob/master/

The only time I see this is when installing a command-line utility of some kind. For instance, if you install express with -g you can generate an app skeleton. Installing libraries globally would be a problem, but it doesn't seem like

Why do you think that TDD prohibits you from using a whiteboard to design your algorithms and data structures beforehand? As far as I can tell, doing that work, then writing your first test is just TDD done well.

It wouldn't necessarily need to be code. It could just be JSON data with updated selectors, etc. Just make sure you use JSON.parse on it, and there aren't any security issues from just fetching the data.
