> pricing will limit its market to very small size I'll give Google the benefit of doubt here. I suspect they priced it high either because their production isn't fully in place to handle a massive surge. OR they are signalling

Let's put aside the politics for a moment. Is it really that easy to compromise a server, or is a high profile high value target really handling security so poorly? It makes me wonder if one of my machines were actively being attacked

This is where I remind everyone about S/MIME. A bit awkward to setup for the first time, but with good email clients it is a pretty transparent experience once you have it setup.

Assuming we restrict the solution to this problem space. Since I trust the service to send the message, then I trust them as well to generate the encrypted package and communicate the passphrase needed to decrypt. I trust them enough to not

This is a really great idea, with a really poor execution. I'm just a regular guy, but the messages and details that I would leave in a service like this are too sensitive to be put on someone else's server for a period of years.

This is a design patent so it is more limited than a business method patent that software usually falls under.

I don't understand why Apple, ms, Cisco, etc don't just set up a shell company that works to invalidate patents owned by these companies. For example, set up an EFF like non-profit whose mission is to invalidate bad patents. Then

For the last year I've been doing exactly that with an iPhone dock. Yes it's an additional accessory, but if you have a $600+ phone plus $600/yr for service then you can probably afford a dock. So, let's move on from thi

That really puts in context police shootings. I wonder why the police are given so much more weapon's autonomy than the military?

The article buried the lead, so here's your TLDR summary: - GIMP & Photoshop use the same O(n²) algorithm - GIMP's implementation is single threaded, while photoshop's is multithreaded and therefore performs much faster o

The finance industry loves cap and trade schemes as it creates a new market to trade and create financial products for. The generally accepted solution is a carbon tax that increases over time. The tax can even be revenue neutral with every

Yes, it is interesting how the companies have evolved. IBM lost the consumer space and is dominant in F100, while Apple won the consumer space and abandoned the enterprise. With both IBM & Apple behind Swift the language is being positi

This is a bad law. The solution is to prosecute those discriminating, not force information to become contraband.

Most ISPs have a clause in their Terms of Service stipulating that you won't use the service for criminal activity. I'm pretty sure a DDoS can be argued as a criminal activity. So, it is in the ISPs right to stop service to those

I'd love to learn more about these botnets. I wonder about things like What's the average time that a compromised computer stays in this net. What is the typical computer (grandmas old PC running XP). Do the ISPs ever get involved

> Google runs the tracking and advertising infrastructure Oh, is that what this is all about? AMP caching is a mechanism to extend Google's lock-in on user tracking. Smart, in an evil sort of way.
