Because of this: "Justin Lee and Oliver Yeh". At a state school, it can be quite difficult to find another person willing to help you build your dreams.

Since you're new here... @ is unnecessary and generally frowned upon since HN is displayed in a hierarchy.

Hackintosh's are pretty old news. I'd love to see an article detailing some of the challenges in the actual hacking of it.

He listed 17 different ways for a user to not convert to a paid user with a traditional desktop app. The iphone mitigates many of these reasons.

Perhaps this is really naive, but why haven't any lawsuits been brought up regarding the app store? Maybe they have but I haven't heard of them?

While this is true, gambling and video games aren't physically addictive and I know several people who suffer from addictions to one or the other.

His Rule #2 really bothers me. To test whether or not a traditional application will work on the web he suggests actually writing the application... (albeit in rapid releases)

They are referring mainly to the algorithm's competition, which is dominated by current competitors in the IOI and ICPC. There are indeed design and development competitions, but for the most part, Topcoder isn't what you think it is.

This is getting ridiculous. Is it that hard to download a different browser if you want another? My parents are happy with IE and Microsoft products, why should they be forced to make a browser decision if there's a default one ready? Furth

Do you have any journal articles conclusively proving this? I'm aware of the impact sugar has on insulin levels and the insulin -> fat path, but I believe the medical consensus is that weight gain is primarily determined by the amount o

Most universities make a large part of their money through research - the money will always be there so I don't see colleges ever going away. What about the value of the diploma? Sure, I could code out of high school. But now employers can

Wow. I just realized you were the same person I sat next to in CIS 3020 at UF - what a terrible waste of a class. You switched my keyboard to Dvorak :( Nice to see you're doing well, I recently joined a startup myself.

Hi Denny, I appreciate the advice. Honestly, I believe myself to be an employee. I'll be making a pretty decent salary and getting a few percent of equity upfront. The founder has worked very hard on the produce for about 15 months or so. I

There were a lot of signs that we were in a housing bubble. Why is it difficult to understand that subprime mortgages + leveraging & rampant house flipping created inflated, unsustainable prices?

OK this makes some sense. As long as there is no valuation, I basically don't have to pay taxes on whatever salary I convert to equity because the current value is nil. Now if/when the equity is actually worth something, I just have to pay

This speech was far better than the one I had to listen to 2 days ago. I just graduated from the University of Florida and had to listen to Harris Lance, the CEO of Harris talk about how great he was. At one point he recommended the enginee
