I once took six months off to freelance early in my career, and failed spectacularly. Four years later, I took six months off and tried the same, and was able to replicate my full-time salary without too much difficulty. YMMV, my by experie

For what it's worth, n=1, I got an internship at Google and a full-time job at Apple by applying through their respective websites. I wholeheartedly agree with checking out 'other' doors, but it definitely doesn't hurt t

If you don't improve the 'hardness' of the authentication scheme - that is, if you continue to use a password instead of, say, SSH keys - then, for all intents and purposes, you've just made the system more _obscure_, ra

If you're going for a security plan of obscurity (which, IMO, is what fail2ban is), I'd just change the SSH port, instead.

Interesting. On 10/30, Qualcomm DMCA'd a few files: https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/master/2014-10-30-Qualco... Then, a few days later on 11/10, requested to rescind their original req

I have a Dropcam in my garage for miscellaneous reasons. I, too, have wondered the implications of providing the Google/NSA complex video evidence of my comings and goings... It'd be nice if Dropcams were more hacker friendly, and

Just a reminder: TMobile is also actively chipping away at net neutrality through their 'free' music streaming feature. That is, they inspect your traffic and don't charge your bandwidth quota for network traffic with TMobile

Some feedback for you: Thanks for conveying this in an easy-to-read style with simple examples. This makes it far easier to send to our non-technical friends, who struggle to understand what this is all about. Unfortunately, it always seems

I find it very hard to believe any government agency could take Marissa Mayer or anyone on the board off to jail with no reason and not cause a huge stir...

Fair enough. But it still stands, couldn't Yahoo ignore it? What's the worst thing the government could do to Yahoo that would go unnoticed by the public, if Yahoo didn't comply?

Weren't these requests, which Yahoo objected to, intended to stay secret, by the wishes of the government? Consider if Yahoo refused to honor the requests, and began accruing the fines. Presumably, if they didn't pay the huge bill
