But you hardly provide tissue samples as you age. Your point has little to do with my argument :/. Registration at birth is a choice we made because of the social values of planning. It's unlikely that those same people, as adults

Hey I've got an idea! Why don't we all register with the government at birth and provide tissue samples each year to verify our identity. Better yet, let's all wear ankle tracking devices or even better still just embed them

Uhh try going to a VC to raise money with the Jeff Bezos story today: "We're going to lose money for five years and then operate at absurdly low margins for eternity". Look, Amazon may win in the long run, but asking why more companies aren

I want freedompop to succeed, but I have trouble seeing their vision in a world without lightsquared. A lot of us in the Telecom industry had high hopes for low-orbit satellite but it wasn't meant to be. Even though Freedompop has had to go

Merrill is buying top of the line Cisco gear. Google is making its own switches and routers because of costs. Cisco is expensive because the median time to failure is so high. Google and Amazon own their datacenters, but they're playing the

I don't see it. Sure Apple could do it, but usurping all of the companies that are filling its pockets right now with media payments would not necessarily be the best course of action. I don't know how a company like Apple could do this and

Perhaps it was facetious to say that IBM can't build clouds. A more realistic viewpoint is that they don't have significant expertise building large commodity infrastructures. There are definitely places where IBM plays well, but commodity

IBM can't build a cloud of their own or they wouldn't have needed to buy SoftLayer. Since they don't have this expertise, they pay a ton of money for a company that their perceive as knowing "the cloud". This is doubly ironic because its IB

If you take a worldview of the last five minutes, this is true, but if you look at silicon valley over time, it is demonstrable that many companies in the Bay Area have built holistic and scalable enterprises. Look no further than box.com f

IBM is buying SoftLayer to try to go head up with AWS. It's not going to work. Personally I won't buy an IBM product because I know it's just like Oracle: software entrapment. Nothing wrong with that business model it's just not one I want

You know what the problem here is? There is no material difference between a 10 person game studio and a 3000 person game studio. Zynga likes to pretend that their Z-Cloud gives them an advantage over their competitors. Maybe it does in ter

Lying is a bit of a strong word. I think calling anything a single 9 service should be taken in jest. It's pretty hard to be down almost 40 days and still be in business. Also, technically something with 98.9999% uptime would still be a sin
