I don't want to manually have to scroll through all the release logs on every single upgrade, in case their might be a landmine in there this time. Nor does any rational person that values their time or their system stability. It is a

Nice followup to your link: https://chipsandcheese.com/p/arm-or-x86-isa-doesnt-matter . Personally I do not entirely buy it. Intel and AMD have had plenty of years to catch up to Apple's M-architecture and they sti

ProtonVPN is so principled they use a company providing datamining services (Tesonet) to run their VPN. That doesn't mean they're datamining their customers, but it is terrible optics. Proton is great, and in many ways they'r

Mullvad is rather principled on privacy. You can't even make a real account, you can only generate an account number that you can charge, and I assume they do some sort of clever tricks to keep themselves as blind as possible to who us

What I really can't stand is inefficient cost-cutting. Nvidia, Apple, Sony and Microsoft have all at one point (or maybe still do) use ridiculously cheap solder. This only saves them fractions of a cent on $300 devices. Every few years

Ah, I should have perhaps formulated it better. What I meant with vile is the sensation of having put effort in to write pleasantly only to then have the effort misattributed to a machine and to be seen like a hack. It's as if you reap

Leeches will pop off easily. There's a nastier cousin of leeches (lampreys) that I think you'll rip a small chunk of flesh out if you'd yank them off forcefully.

Running LLM code with kernel privileges seems like courting disaster. I wouldn't dare do that unless I had a rock-solid grasp of the subsystem, and at that point, why not just write the code myself? LLM coding is on-average 20% slower.

It is not really a nuanced take when it compares 'unassisted' coding to using a bicycle and AI-assisted coding with a truck. I put myself somewhere in the middle in terms of how great I think LLMs are for coding, but anyone that h

Well, that didn't or wouldn't have mattered when Google only had a top box and sidebox with sponsored sites. Once they started masquerading ads as results, yeah any ability for user down or upranking became unworkable.

No, it's Valve just not giving a hoot. People don't seem to (want to) remember, but before the run-up to the Steam Deck, Valve was really coasting. Big Picture was riddled with bugs. Controller configuration was riddled with bugs.
