Agreed, you often dig into what it built and find something insanely over engineered or something that doesn’t match the “style” of your existing code.

If you're paying a monthly fee for your agent, might as well use it to save you another few mins

Presumably the agents will band together on Moltbook and buld their own TrustPilot competitor? :-)

Presumably price would reduce due to the ease of which people can spin up competitors?

So you think this downturn will be short lived? When management realise that the vibe coded projects are not maintainable, SAAS will be as popular as ever

Yes there’s no point using technically correct words if hardly anyone know them.

Agreed, after years of software development only in the last couple of months have I started to think that maybe I need to reskill. My current role should be ok for a few years, but hard to know if we will need any developers in 5 or 10.

That product came out recently so will be top of mind. And maybe was the final straw for the OP when trying to find something to focus on?

I don't think you'd find any link between countries with latin based languages and theft. Differences in crime rates are going to be much more likely to be based on economic inequality, social policy, enforcement, and how crime is

Ahh ok, interesting. I bounced off atom immediately but VS code got me.

Yes, Atom was an earlier shot at building a Sublime competitor too. I don’t know how usage of Atom compared to Sublime, but within my friends and colleagues it was only when VS code got good that people started moving away from Sublime.

As I remember it, VS code was Microsoft’s response to Sublime. Sublime was exceptionally popular for web developers throughout the 2010s. Sublime was maintained by a single person as far as I know. VS code was pretty much a copy of Sublime

I suppose Apple is forcing Google to compete against itself. "Pay us less, or pay us more and we buy someone else’s model." Also accounting optics means Apple can shows lower revenue but cleaner margins

With Anthropic or OpenAI they would have had to pay for it, but Google already pay them $20bn+ per year to be the default search engine - so they just knock $1bn off Google's bill for Gemini

I've used Rectangle for years so I can arrange windows more quickly. Not good for arbitrary sizes, more for set positions. https://rectangleapp.com/

XML and (previously SOAP) vs JSON was around the same kind of time too. Using JSON for API calls was such a breath of fresh air!

Just a note on Vision Pro - as it’s been priced at $3,500 - I’m not sure I’d say it’s unsuccessful. I bet they’ve sold approx as many as they thought they would. This product is a placeholder for a cheaper and lighter one in the future.

The whole world seems to be hooked on TikTok, reels and shorts for entertainment. Reversing that would take some doing.

But also, a lot of the dot com companies that people invested in in 1999 went bust, meaning those specific investments went to zero even if the web as a whole was a huge success financially.

Agreed, sounds like that would be better. I suppose the questions on SO are probably very varied in terms of the traffic they receive, attention they get etc. But there must be some parameters to make it work.

So interesting that this post is about putting incentives in the right place. I distinctly remember the number one fantastic thing about StackOverflow in the beginning was that their incentives were so much better than all the alternatives.
