The title of Mankiw’s post is “Do two rights make a wrong?”, not “do two wrongs make a right” as in the HN title. Mankiw argues that it is noble and “right” to voluntarily give someone a kidney. Likewise it’s noble and “right” to voluntaril

See also the Bradley X Tax, which is a value-added tax melded with an income tax. The income tax can be as progressive as you like, and the VAT is equivalent to a flat sales tax. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_tax http://www.princeton.ed

I love that there was a guy whose whole job was to show up at the hotel, pay for the room across the hall from the target, hand off the key, and then immediately leave the country.

The bottle with the corkscrew on the inside is my favorite. My best guess is that the corkscrew handle, without the screw, was hung inside by threads. The cork-with-screw was then pressed into place, probably with some glue on the end of th

I played risk online at warfish.net for a while until I felt like I had maxed out the strategy to within the noise level. It isn’t obvious to me that there is a first mover advantage. In our games the initial territories were randomly dist

You could be right. Maybe Lyons get together every Thursday at a bar and rib each other over who had the harsher blog post while they sip on Deus Brut Des Flandres. Maybe they have pet names for each other’s kids, and give them noogies at g

Gruber’s reply was unbecoming and mean-spirited. Gruber routinely awards people the title “Jackass of the Week” for having opinions he disagrees with or for making erroneous predictions. When he himself whiffed hard on his Google Voice post

You and I must use different definitions for “side effects or stuff hidden from view” if you think those are things you avoid by programming in C.

It seems risky even if an attacker only had access to the final password hash, and not to the hash for every intermediate substring. In this ca the hacker could dictionary attack the hash while bypassing server side limits on failed passwor
