You know nothing about Darfur, so why are you having opinions about it. Also the issue is that America DOESN'T intervene in genocides and neither does the international community - not consistently. Kosovo is one "good" examp

There is so much code out there to help you do typed params and to stop you having to concat strings to make queries. You don't need an orm for this.

I'm talking about the hard problem, which is nothing to do with whether a system can analyse/reflect on inputs. Non concious computers can do this. The truth may be that analog computation in physical systems like the brain result

We don't know what consciousness is OR what it's for. There is no theory of what a brain is capable of with consciousness vs without or if this is even a valid question.

The ethical dilemma bit of this is nothing to do with technology, it's about our ability to study ourselves without our findings being controlled by our stupid reactionary politics and lack of trust in our institutions. We don't b

I agree that trying to eliminate a class of bugs through language design is a good thing to try, absolutely. I just mean to say that the idea that you inherently make your software more reliable by "rewriting in Rust" is false. I

You get rid of bugs by working hard and testing, not language features. I feel like the safety that Rust offers is balanced out by the complexity it introduces. I don't understand why anyone would rewrite in Rust to try and get rid of

Our understanding of the universe could be arbitrarily rudimentary which means actually advanced technology, say that which improves somewhat like ours for, say, a million years would just look like magic to us.

Where are the scientists looking at all the credible UFO sightings? Nowhere, because scientists are just like everyone else, they don't actually want to discover any thing new or change anything, they want to reconfirm what they think
