Why have you decided to keep that song in instead of replacing it with something else or creatively omitting it? It seems that it would be worth the effort to avoid the complication of obtaining the license.

I've heard many times that copyright of scripts in Hollywood is easily circumvented, as you can't protect a plot, only the specific words.

Just to add on to dash2's comment, the art collection world relies on provenance. Most large art museums (in the US, at least) rarely buy from private collectors for this reason. Items from private collectors are usually donated, and i

I've always suspected that was due to their porn selection. A few years ago, I knew someone who worked in a video rental store in the heart of Kansas City that had an extensive "back room". It always seemed to me that the bac

When your family was travelling, did you make extra noise at the houses and apartments you rented? Why do you expect most people to disrespect the people around them if they are only there temporarily?

I don't know. It seems like another risk to build in. They had the chance to make a big app and potentially be acquired by Facebook or someone. They didn't win enough people over to put the screws to Twitter, so they lost.

In biology, there are a large number of very specific niche journals such that a paper on a topic out of vogue is likely to land in a more specific journal. This is not without drawbacks, but it sort of works.

Another thing that complicates this in the life sciences is that techniques aren't standard. If I use 8 month old rats and draw blood in the morning, I will likely have different gene expression and protein content than your study that

This sounds like an update to the format of textbooks. They sort of work like this already: as new versions come out, they include the latest revisions in the field. On the other hand, they also serve their publishers by putting out new ver

I'd like to live where you live and have your acquaintances. I live in the midwest and the adoration of police is ever so slightly lower than that for the military.

I think Baltimore is run by a black mayor and a mostly-black city council. It can't be written off as race problems this time.

There's an article in the Atlantic[1] that explains that there have been a good deal of civil cases settled for police brutality and racism, but none of the perpetrators have been charged. It seems to me that there is no reason for a p

I'm sure from Bethesda's perspective, they own the IP and built all of the tools for the modders. It made sense in their meetings, but failed in the community.

The latest I've seen is that Valve gets 30%, then the publisher decides what the rest of the split looks like. If they had released the exact same system, but said the modders get 75%, I think this whole ordeal would have been avoided.

I think what's happening is that the news is reported to be that chimps make and use tools to hunt, when in fact, the new data seems to be about female chimps being much more likely to make and use spears than males.

I agree, but that leads me as a backer to try to validate the ability of creators to finish. The best way for me to evaluate that short of personally knowing the creator is to see if they have previous campaigns that finished well. This con

I suppose it would be simple to embed the receiver in the street. You know with decent certainty where the tires will be, so if the signal works one wheel-diameter away it will be picked up.
