I saw that ad last week, and of the 4 or so randomly selected friends, I was incredulous that one of them had a score of less than 130, and that another had a score as high as 130. Ordinarily I would be tempted to waste time competing with

We'll still have swap as long as CPUs support virtual memory. Nothing beats using a dumb programming language and process model, and without explicitly deciding anything, being able to scale past physical memory until your working set just

I looked at SML and there seemed to be a few warts compared to Ocaml: http://www.mpi-sws.org/~rossberg/sml-vs-ocaml.html mlton may not allow separate compilation (it does whole-program optimization at least), and it's pretty slow even on

Haskell may potentially be compiled to within epsilon of C when using strict evaluation + mutable state + unboxed types (look at the shootout implementations; the majority are in this style), but lazy evaluation and functional data structur

Sure, but words mean things. I can't see the harm in knowing the most appropriate word for my meaning, even if most everyone is oblivious to the preference. There are items I find questionable too ("Brokerage is what a stockbroking firm do

I read Sarno when I was suffering from "carpal tunnel" like symptoms that wouldn't heal. I didn't believe his claims, but his argument about the possibility of self-perpetuating psychosomatic pain made me put more effort into being happy,

Stuart McGill's http://www.amazon.com/Low-Back-Disorders-Evidence-based-Reha... is a good textbook. It's not for the layperson looking for quick recommendations, but he does give some recommendations based on physical and computer models

I mentioned this already, but be cautious of full depth if your femurs (upper leg) are relatively long (to your lower leg, not your whole body). Those lengths affect your hip angle in keeping your center of mass (including the hopefully he

Forth is ridiculously simple to implement. But there's no reason to use it, beyond that. It's less expressive than C but not faster.

On the other hand, adding a few explicit lessons on mental 3d rotation at the start of some university's chemistry (organic? - I can't remember) significantly narrowed a male/female performance gap.

Nitpick: a nonce is supposed to be used only once (safe against replay). I think you both mean the URL is supposed to be secret. I agree that there are many ways (e.g. web proxies) for a URL to become not-secret.
