Hanlon's razor is "Never ascribe to malice that which is sufficiently explained by incompetence." The "incompetence" explanation is that RH is a baby newcomer as far as retail brokerages go and made a desperate move

So here's the thing: there's plausible deniability at play here. RH isn't the only brokerage to suspend/limit trading in volatile stocks. The reason given (liquidity issues for the broker and clearinghouse) is entirely

Is it really in a tough position, though? I'm pretty sure they have the right to suspend/restrict trading in any security at their sole discretion. Yes they have to spend time and money defending these lawsuits but they are mostl

Gamma squeeze has to do with options, short squeeze has to do with just stock. Therefore the gamma squeeze has a timing component, while short squeeze can happen at any time irrespective of when options expire.

When I signed up for IB I had to check a box that permits IB to loan out my shares for a small fee. I'm not sure if a broker can loan out a client's shares without the client's approval. It may be fine print in the TOS, thou

Shorting doesn't only mean short stock. You can be short call options, and if they are in the money, the holder of the contract can exercise his or her option, which forces the seller of the contract to provide shares at whatever pric

The value of a big index fund going to zero is so inconceivable as to be hardly worth considering. That would mean that ALL 500 of the US' largest companies by market cap all go completely bankrupt WITHIN ONE CALENDAR YEAR. I think if

In this case the retail brokerages have suspended or greatly curtailed opening new positions on GME, which has a similar result: stabilizing prices. Just as the buying might be coordinated effort by readers of reddit, the suspension of buyi

I believe the statements were worded in such a way to try to make people believe that the short squeeze was no longer in play, but the short interest in fact never changed and maybe even went up. I believe they were also worded in a way to

But even in a margin account, the broker just "does it" and it shows up as an order after the fact, not one you can see in advance and cancel, AFAIK.
