Do you have an example? What makes it unbelievable? What if a product is legitimately that good?

What would incentivize me to forward on such a review? Material compensation just happen somewhere... No one posts great reviews about a product because they were asked nicely. Unsolicited? That's fine; I consider that a review based o

Always interested in more folks joining this conversation. It's what I do full time. I think my contact info is in my profile. I'm located in Austin so I'd have to fly out for drinks. ;)

If the FTC contacts you directly, expect your corporate lawyers to ask you to prioritize resolution over pretty much anything else.

Amazon is not strictly a ratings and reviews company. I don't know in total how many reviews they have.

The FTC requires disclosure for reviews that were written by individuals who were given a product for the purpose of reviewing it. It is considered anticompetitive and illegal to forego disclosing this about a review. As an engineer at perh

How does this compare with the log stash alerting plugin that's available? Does it work without log stash (i.e., just elastic search)?

My 2-year-old son is the happiest, sweetest little boy. He was diagnosed with autism about 6 months ago by a pediatric neurologist, who we saw because he has zero communication skills (verbal or otherwise). He is almost always remarkably ha

In fact, YAML is a superset of JSON, and any valid JSON is also valid YAML. This becomes more obvious when you realize you can put any JSON objects inside of your YAML document and any YAML parser will correctly deserialize it.

Is there any real science to this? Can someone provide legitimate references? I tried this last time it was on HN. It felt like a hoax; I was less focused because the sounds were less calming than the air conditioning in the office, and bec

A minor correction as a courtesy to other readers: puppet, chef, etc are not atomic. They can usually be considered thread safe across processes, if for some reason you run two simultaneously, but that is not a guarantee. Their changes are

Doesn't this assume a single-threaded application? The example of a clerk's service time and people waiting in line is oversimplified. Modern systems have maybe 100 clerks per store, and many stores; how do you perform a "Ctr

This is neat. At Bazaarvoice (my current employer), we built a Ruby DSL specifically for CloudFormation (AWS) several years ago. It looks and works similarly. We open sourced it and have been using it in production for a couple years now. y

I expect the reason is because Heroku could switch to a new provider in the future and it would be a pain to always update every reference to their provider. Parent seems to imply there's something wrong with choosing AWS. There is not

One neat trick I've found is using `exec` in conjunction with process substitution to effect and gather changes to the current environment within the context of a script (usually not as useful with a pty attached). Example: how can you
