Do their readers do contactless payment at all? Apple/Google Pay are just presenting your phone as a contactless payment card so it should work anywhere a physical card can be used that way.

In my experience though being able to learn computer science isn't actually a very useful indicator of your ability to deliver the sort of software most companies are developing. I'd be willing to bet that even within Google or Mi

I hear this argument occasionally and it’s very contextual. While it’s certainly possible to rewrite any given shell script in Python, Rust, or whatever language you prefer there are some things which are just clearer in Bash. I wouldn’t wa

I'm curious what you're using all these Pis for when you've got a server on the network to provide network boot. Can you not just use the device that's providing network boot to provide whatever you're running on th

The bit I forgot to mention here was that alongside all that my parents were incredibly diligent in making sure I learnt how to touch type at the same time, which I can't thank them enough for. That means that I can write without think

Hi. I had fairly severe dyslexia (and it turns out undiagnosed ADHD) in school, I could read fine, but handwriting in particular was hideously slow, to the point where I wasn't able to actually learn much because I was spending all my

My Windows computer is connected to both a monitor on my desk, and a TV way over the other side of the room for playing games that make more sense that way. As the sibling post here mentioned, it can be kind of annoying to pick up the mouse

At least in my experience, yes, it really is that dull. If you get senior enough it manages to be both very dull and very stressful. I managed to stick out for about a year after the startup I’d been working for was acquired by a multinat

Likewise, I think its under appreciated just how many people got their start in this industry through tinkering with things because they seemed interesting.

The real pros used server side includes, where you could drop specially formed comments into your HTML which then be processed by Apache and replaced with the content of another file before being sent on to the client.

This is people climbing into the cargo cars of incredibly slow moving trains and rummaging through some packages, not putting dynamite on a bridge and blowing it up to force the thing to stop.

Sadly this is caught up in the usual conflict of interests. As someone building a PWA I would love a quick and easy method to pop up an install dialogue for the user. Unfortunately as a user of Safari on iOS the last thing I want is for eve

I’m not sure this is true anywhere. I live in a moderately sized UK city, and have done most of my life. There’s nowhere in the city that I would intentionally avoid at night due to the risk of bad things happening to me, many decades ago a

It’s really not. Lots of mobile providers did indeed run email to SMS bridges back in the day, but those were taking the body of the email (or sometimes just the subject) and converting it into an SMS for delivery.

XMPP absolutely has cross server support, it was designed from the ground up to do so. You can run your own server and advertise it via DNS, which will then allow other servers to communicate back and forth with users on your server.
