I mostly agree but I think it’s still a shame that American companies are forced to comply with draconian regulations like this. It’s probably more of a problem for diplomacy and state policy to solve than private actors though.

The principle of blameless postmortems is not supposed to absolve anyone of the responsibility to change anything, it’s supposed to foreground that serious failures are organizational failures first and foremost, because it’s the organizati

It’s funny, I don’t really feel that way about spending money on stuff, especially not cars which are a total nightmare. I guess I consider my time a lot more valuable? Probably why the higher prices for Apple products don’t bother me. I ju

I’ve yet to find the perfect language but that doesn’t mean I’m satisfied with the imperfections that exist in the ones I use. It’s perfectly reasonable to not use a language for lack of operator overloading. I personally avoid languages de

What you’re describing is literally the iOS (and increasingly, macOS) security model that gets derided by power users for being too restrictive. The system owns the photo picker. When an app asks for photos, you can either give it access to

iOS already lets you choose with granularity which photos to allow an app access to as of iOS 14. Both macOS and iOS do not allow any app to have access to photos, contacts, camera, etc, without prompting the user first. But there is a trad

For my part the notifications seem almost completely random except that they come when I’m sitting down. I have not noticed them happening when I’m particularly stressed. You’ll notice in the app that you can specify how many notifications

I don’t think it’s actually tied to stress. That’s not documented anywhere. I think it’s more or less random, albeit you have to already be sitting still to get a notification.

Linus’ objection to C++, if you boil it down, is that it adds a lot of complexity without fixing what’s fundamentally broken about C: memory safety. Rust’s memory model is much safer than C’s, and it is a significantly simpler language than

The state is very broadly not allowed to suppress speech. “People might harass me online if you post a video” is not a very good argument for abridging peoples’ constitutional rights.

Point being, cops aren’t actually allowed to retaliate, or stop you from filming them, just because they don’t like what you’re saying. They are required to let you speak and film.

In this context “trans woman with a penis” or “woman with a penis” is fine. You can’t go wrong with scientific language. Pretty much nobody who is trans uses the word “intact,” I would go so far as to say it’s offensive and that you should
