Actually Paul Graham discussed this point in an interesting way: If geeks are so smart, why don't they just work the social system the way they would hack a computer program? I agree with his conclusion: Geeks care (desperately even) about

Not looking at the keyboard as you type is important for secretaries who have to copy text off a hard copy. For a programmer I'd say it makes little difference. But hey, don't let that get in the way of smug superiority.

I did two and a half months of that two years ago. Rented a private office and had all day every day to work on my idea. Today I don't even know how those months just disappeared, except that I got nothing substantial done at all. I do reme

That's because a GWT app is not a web page. It's an application. In order to create a GUI for it you will need to be able to work with components and events, the same way you construct a desktop application, which was always the domain of p

That seems to be what they are saying. However, Google does not have a good track record of delivering product for non-technical end users. GMail, their one succesful homegrown, mass-market, non-search product that I can think of, is a mess

That is a badass presentation. I wouldn't have read 10% of that information had it been delivered as paragraphs of text.

Push-ups give me a headache. I don't know if its the blood rushing to the head or the neck tension, but they are uncomfortable for me for reasons that have nothing to do with the actual excercise. Same thing for pull-ups, sit-ups or whatcha

I'm no fitness buff but doing push-ups doesn't strike me as the thing for losing weight. Push-ups are also horribly unergonomic - just see how guys in the video are arching their backs. Better to go to the gym and use a machine that isolate

I see your Carlin and raise you Jerry Seinfeld. In ten years of making probably the funniest TV ever I think he said 'hell' a couple of times and that's about it.

Why should we invoke imagery of feces or corpulation to make a point? The relief people feel today by swearing is because it defies political correctness and hypocritical holiness which are issues most people share right now in our culture.

I think the jury is still out on whether a corrupt elite cannot hijack a democratic system. You got rid of "Bush" in '93 yet here he is again. More to the point, the powers behind the Bushes and probably any other candidate you get to choos

It has long been known that cats carry a sort of mind-altering parasite (toxoplasmosis). The parasite has been shown to affect behavioral changes in rats, causing them to recklessly seek out areas marked with cat urine (which causes panic i

Apparently management-targeted material has to read like it is written for grade schoolers: "Here's Sandy and Sue. They are great friends! Don't forget the StickyNotes at the end of the lesson!"

As another Dane I can say that a lot of the things that Paul laments in his essays do not exist in our schools. Honestly we grimace at the notion of a 'prom queen' or a 'homecoming' celebration of a sports team. I think in part we feel it a
