Love GWT, and for the moment, unlike Dart, it uses a language that is viable for both server and client-side code. Until Dart catches up to Java (particularly for the server-side part), I'll be happily using GWT. Dart looks promising,

Sounds great, just bought it (on Amazon, for my Kindle, with one click). For another great read about a would-be Amazon that didn't turn out quite the same way, and an entertaining look into the internet business environment at the tur

JSP allows mixing client-side (HTML) with server-side code. GWT, and most modern frameworks, use regular servlets as the backend, and some (other) type of templating system with better separation.

For what it's worth, TeamPostgreSQL is also a GWT app. Also, GWT apps are not JSP based, they are pure HTML and JS for the client-side.

Yes, it is still being actively developed, at a slowish rate depending on how many other projects are going on at the same time. We release a new build around every two-three weeks, with minor enhancements and bug fixes. Releasing the sourc

There's a dropdown ('Select download') with four options, one of which says 'Mac OSX Installer'. Can you explain what makes it unclear? Thanks in advance!

Thank you, I will look into it. Note that you can still run the cross-platform version if you want to try it.

I believe the installer packages bundle a JRE (which runs in isolation from your other Java installations) so that shouldn't be a problem. Only the cross-platform archive assumes you have a Java (6+) installed. Off the top of my head I

As the author of a comparable tool (TeamPostgreSQL), most of our users use an IP whitelist in their firewall to access the web client. Of course, you can also use the tool on your local network only as a substitute for a regular admin tool

We make a similar thing: http://www.teampostgresql.com AJAX/JavaScript powered rich web GUI for PostgreSQL. Looks like this took some inspiration from us too (which is great). TeamPostgreSQL is a side-project but pretty mat

Another good reason for compiling to JavaScript from a higher level platform. With GWT you get complete and accurate stacktraces straight into the Java codebase. Catch it, send it to the backend for logging. Most client-side JavaScript erro

Hey, you might not get this but the issue you reported is now fixed (failure to resolve segmented index expressions after some changes to PG system functions). Thanks for reporting this and let me know if I can help with anything.

I am building an HTML5 game (canvas/2D) that is distributed both online and on mobile. It is asset heavy with total assets weighing in around 600 MB, with an initial download around 7 MB and progressive loading as the player advances.

I would use Java for GWT, if nothing else. Being able to write a huge and complex application for the web, using Java both for the client and server code is something I would not want to live without (links in my profile for examples). But

Looks very cool - I love the idea of a deep platformer. I personally feel that (first-person) 3D is way overused, 'because we can', when it usually restricts rather than enhances gameplay.

It is built with GWT. It does not have a standard FOSS license since it is not (yet) open source. The license is included with the download, it still fairly standard, the product is free no strings attached.

What if this technology simply let you rotate, pan, zoom, etc. using your other hand, which would otherwise be unused? I don't do 3D modelling so I'm not sure if this would actually be an improvement, but getting the other hand in
