It also improved the field of view for the display — you can view the display from an oblique angle and it looks great. This could get annoying in public places, where you don't want people looking at your phone.

Yes, but this site would be incredibly dull if people didn't. It would just be employees making factual statements about their own companies.

Is the app store trend finally showing a crack? At some point, devices are going to discover the same thing that PCs already know - web apps are better than native software for most things. Once flash arrives for real this trend will real

I lost any trust for Skype the first time they emailed me that I had 7 days to use some credit or they would confiscate all of it. How is that not theft?

I like your take on smartphones. People are grossly underestimating their potential due to current limitations of computing power. My prediction is that as the iPhone gets faster, the iPad becomes less desirable.

I completely agree. Most folks interested in working for a startup have founder ambitions themselves. When you really think about it, if you're going to ride the roller coaster, you may as well do it as a founder. Otherwise (unless you c

There is a law of nature at play: the greater your desire to make money, the more time you spend selling. Holds true in every field.

I wonder if rejecting flash is Apple's 21st century version of not licensing their operating system. In the 80's, nobody knew such a move was a death magnet. Perhaps missing the mobile flash train could be something similar today. Interes

There's not nearly enough data to make decent conclusions about national teams. They don't play often enough, and when they do the rosters are never the same. To make a decent prediction you have to use the final roster (submitted to FIFA

Every time I propose that the web will win out on devices, the argument of inaccessible mobile hardware always comes up. The best counter argument is justin.tv - that runs in a browser, and clearly has no problem finding your camera. Why

Very interesting. I would love it if mysql server natively supported a json interface like this. The db would become a web service... how trendy!

Exactly, I don't think this project will get far trying to deliver privacy at the expense of redundancy/availability.

"What if your HD drops dead or something?" This is the crux of the matter. You've got two options: store your data locally, or store it in the cloud. Local storage minimizes the chance of loss; Cloud storage sacrifices you privacy. Pick y

I think it's the loyal fan base that allows Apple to define new products. They listen to Apple, because Apple has repeatedly delivered great experiences in the past. Very few companies have this power.

That device would be very useful for crooks. [EDIT] Combined with some custom software, that device could be the easiest way to copy someone's CC information. A waiter could swipe the card on his iPhone, before running it on the restaurant

Discoverability on iPhoneOS also suffers from the lack of a mouse pointer, since that takes 'hovering' out of the equation. On the desktop we take for granted the ability to mouseover something to test for clickability (the common case bei

Same goes for Apple and the uprising against their banning of non-native development tools. Facebook is not the web, and iPhones are not computers.

I think we have as much a knowledge problem as a food problem. If cheaper food has more calories, then for heaven's sake eat less of it! Split a supersized big mac meal into breakfast/lunch/dinner and you'll hit your daily caloric target

I'd go a bit further and say that the web has already won. At the moment, mobile hardware is still too slow to provide decent web browser experience (which is why we use native apps).
