Great idea - people love their dogs and this is a great way to show them off to others. I'd get rid of the ads for now - they dilute the 'brand' (for lack of a better word), which should be your focus right now along with getting lots of u

This price makes plenty of sense if you think of as "instagram was bought for x% of facebook". I don't know facebook's current valuation, but I could be convinced that instagram is worth something between 2-10% of it (500M users vs 30M use

I had been wondering how a product like Instagram would ever make money. Now we'll never find out. I guess traction really does trump all other business metrics.

People outside the finance world seem to think beta is the same thing as standard deviation, and forget about the market correlation factor. I think the natural conclusion goes like: beta ~= risk ~= potential reward. It's hard to remember

Kudos to instagram for its passionate following. Few startups have users who care so much.

The plan might be the most rational one I've heard regarding Groupon. Not the most moral strategy, but it's one that seems to factor in their vague value proposition.

You're not the first young person to smell a rat and assume that everything is ok because some senior people say so. Your lessons here: 1) gut feelings are usually correct, and 2) many startups are run by delusional idiots with impressive b

I love the mentality behind this effort. More stuff can and should be done in the browser on mobile devices. For this to succeed, the most important problem is not exposing mobile hardware (camera, gps, etc) - it's user input. The corner

Then just stick with the DOM and XHR APIs. Those alone have been consistently crushing most desktop applications since ~2003.

The communist regimes of 50 years ago were more than happy to protect our (American) ideas from foreigners. I suppose that in fighting so hard to undue this, we thought they would buy our products but not clone them.

The line where the original attributes are backed up needs to be a deep copy (otherwise the updates will affect the backed up dictionary): self.orig = self.obj.__dict__ Should be more like: self.orig = self.obj.__dict__.copy()

That whole internet/hyperlink/REST thing that we developed over the last 20 years? That was just a stop gap while we transitioned from mouse pointers to capacitive touch screens. Now that we point with our fingers instead of our hands, we

In theory, each user could see a different set of posts. The posts are sorted by proximity to you. So, there are no locality borders (actually there may be some due to implementation details, but it's no the intention).

Not sure yet. Right now they last forever, although newer stuff will eventually supplant older stuff (and there's no way to 'see older posts' yet).

An internet company did something wrong. We'll make them pay by boosting their google page rank.
