Standups would make more sense if the team did not communicate during the day. The reason I think they are pointless is that when a blocking issue arises, you drop what you're doing and walk straight over to the person who can help you. I

All told, you can only seem so impressive on a stage. Nothing impresses me more than when a non technical/startupy friend or relative casually mentions a new product.

I don't think any of your examples would have looked impressive just based on the idea. In all of those cases, the wild growth is what made the company a big story. Tell the world that your startup will deliver burgers, and nobody will car

Yahoo should not be surprised when future prospective employees would rather work at or found a startup.

I've been looking for the right place to ask for this very thing. There's no savvier investor than YC itself, and they allocate their money in a very specific and consistent manner: equally across all startups in a batch. Full coverage is

I think there is a precedent here: deflation, which is the classical way of describing a currency whose spending power is increasing. I'm not well versed in the history of currencies, but that's one place I'd investigate to see how the "bu

This might be by design. I think all investors probably realize the legal ramifications. The net effect of this could be to sniff out the ones who don't make good on their handshakes, since the ones who do probably won't mind putting term

I think the startup world already does this well enough to negate any need for parody.

If you owe Joe money, he might accept bitcoins because he knows he can use them (minus a fee) at sites like bitspend.

This is likely to solicit questions about whether purchases can be anonymous. However, I don't think that matters. As long as an average Joe (who doesn't care about anonymity) can use this to spend bitcoins, the overall acceptance of the

Scary thought: the U.S. is actually going to have to compete going forward. We've leveraged our natural resources for a long time, but we just can't get much more growth out of them.

Right now, Web Developer Toolbar lets me live edit HTML in the browser. I'd like the same feature, but instead of editing in the browser, I want to edit the actual html file. So, this would be some sort of "live edit mode" where open a ur

I hope companies of the future will at least offer working space as a perk. I am much less productive at home with my pets around, and I can't imagine what it will be like once I have children. In my experience, offices are a painful place

Shopping is hard in general, but especially so when the list gets bigger. You end up making more circles through the store and it's hard for the human brain to validate that the 20 things in my cart are the same as the 20 items in the list

That is a rare case of correctly understanding the user but incorrectly understanding the technology (most errors are the opposite). That laziness drives behavior was correct, but that calling is easier than texting was incorrect.

The OP's point is that the major benefits of accelerators don't always align with the needs of a given company. It's probably a fair point - Demo Day happens on Demo Day, not on the one day that happens to be ideal for all the companies.

Out of pure curiosity, why is it that the OP's original requests for help were ignored? Is it recommended that to get better support you should make a public case of it? A lot of larger companies seem to operate this way.

Your math/point-of-view is intuitive and quite common. However, startups are a game of large multipliers. At any given stage, you're always pushing to be 10X of where you are now. Your long term goal is probably to be 1000X more valuable

I agree with Dave's conclusion, but my rational is different: the trend towards enterprise is precisely what will open up the consumer space. It's the same force that has left enterprise relatively uncrowded in recent years.

This would probably be best for a focused sprint to build the first (or next) iteration of a product. You need to be back in real life to interact with users and pivot the idea if necessary.

Downtime is inevitable for most companies. The only question is how much work you want to put in to achieve the standard up time.

The author still thinks that you need to pack it up and go somewhere to succeed. That message sidesteps the real debate: whether you can "stay home" with your startup. Most people that are willing to move end up in Silicon Valley.
