http://seomoz.org is an awesome research tool for seo. They do have a pro account, it's a bit pricy but well worth it for organic keyword research.

I have found that the Chrome Web Developer Tools can do anything the Firebug can do and usually Chrome does it in a better way in my opinion.

Check out http://sikuli.org/ . It's visual based programming for automating task. I use it all the time and it's super fast to set up.
