Yes, history (or "the common understanding of these events") is written by the winners. The democrats (small d) won the wars and conquered the world. Now, democratic schools teach pro-democracy views, which constitute the only acceptable ma

When the only measure available is hopelessly flawed, the correct approach isn't to use it; it's to say, "I don't know."

I agree, "alternative" does seem to have a negative connotation at this time, maybe because so many things now fall under that term. Thanks for letting us know the doctor was IFM-affiliated; it's good to know that option is available.

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope this serves as a wake-up call to anyone who doesn't believe that someone can be misdiagnosed many times by medical professionals. Perhaps this is related to what marze said, but based on your experie

You are on the right track, chrischen. Many of us seem to have made the hidden assumption that we are first supposed to have a two-decade-long "education" phase, and only then a "real world" phase. I'll bet even the not-so-bright kids can t

I think you mean arram's reasoning? I agree that if adderall stunts creativity, it is at best somewhat misleading to say it makes you smarter. Imagine someone said this: "Hey, I found this new drug. It makes you smarter and less creative."

Thanks robc and ed. In that case, I don't think this is as impressive from a technical perspective as some people thought. Again, this AOT compiler is not what made Flash apps technically possible on the iPhone; Adobe could've used this sam

Did they take class into account at all? That could explain some of the results. Or even if they did, and all of these stats have been adjusted for class, carryover from class stereotypes could still explain the results.

They can't even get Flash to work well on the desktop. Video performance is abysmal. Sure, it's possible that they'll get their act together for the mobile versions, but it seems unlikely. And that is a very good thing.

Heroku has been hyped up far and wide as being some kind of magical scaling solution. Just give Heroku your app and it will scale infinitely on EC2, right? Wrong. As they've admitted before, they haven't done anything to scale the database.
