OT: I've always wondered if powered mini-transportation tools like electric boards and scooters could fix the gaps in mass transit. Make it so that stops are less frequent/further apart, with the assumption that the last few miles

I can certainly buy the narrative that the military is spending too much money or designing weapons for the 'last war'. Yet I have a nagging suspicion that this is like the business users complaining that IT won't just buy ev

They are referring to Europe as a political entity not as the geographical feature. GB has generally considered itself separate from 'Europe' as a polity. It would be like referring to someone from Cuba as 'American' bec

The Concorde is one of those early implementations that is just big enough to barely work, yet never really succeeds, while also sucking all the air out of the room for any other ideas. The aviation fan side of me would love to see the Conc

Passion causes burnout. Have you ever noticed that the people who just punch a clock and go home never experience burn out? Even if they end up working overtime? It's always the people who identify with their work that get burned.

Have you ever met someone who was a hobbyist or amateur engineer at best, but always has grand ideas about how things should work? But has no idea of the type of investment or execution it would take to pull off. That is what I think of w

Thinner air produces less drag. You can travel faster over air that is less dense. Meaning the total volume of air flowing over the wing still remains high enough to provide lift. A 400mph glider would get torn apart at normal pressures, bu

I was mostly skeptical that AI weapons would be some sort of novel threat. We've had weapons that choose to kill on their own since the landmine. There are also weapons that could fight/end an entire war with the push of one butto

Get enough sleep and physical activity. In my experience the brain follows the body. An active mind is generated by an active body. Likewise a sleepy and listless mind can be created easily.

Miles are overrated as a unit of wear. I sincerely doubt a one year old car with 100k miles will require replacement. I would double or triple the authors expected vehicle lifespan.

I'm not sure how true this is anymore. An OBD scanner makes the computer work for you. Modifications are certainly more difficult, but repair is easier IMHO. It is vastly easier to go replace the one bad fuel injector on a 2005 than

Let me put it another way. If it is comparatively cheap to get to any of the other planets. Couldn't we just go to Neptune and stop our orbital velocity from there where it's only 5kms? How about exiting planetary orbits retrograd
